Undersea Kingdom with Crash Corrigan 1936 AW YEAH!!!

So how can i be nostalgic over something that was made 40 years before I was born ? I love this serial!

The Juggernaut, an armored car with Clown car abilities, a horde of mechanical men can fit inside. ( okay camera cuts away before they get out) Lon Chaney Jr as the driver!

EVERYbody is in little mini sleeveless dresses and capes with finned shower caps on. ( I think the rule was 'If I cant wear pants in this movie NOONE gets to') The token reporter woman is wearing the longest dress in the film. well, other than the evil emperor in his robes who dispite being kinda mongolian is NOT Ming at ALL! Thats in SPACE! this is UNDERWATER! Not at all the same. . ( though the only underwater we see is a model sub marine in a fishtank going into a cave during the credits.

Okay Not everyone is wearing dresses. some wear diapers and capes with rooster helmets.

Naplam shooting canons, real catapults dozens of costumed sword weilding riders on horses.really good miniatures, stunt men work, this was no B serial , top notch great budget. The lame old serial fight coreography isnt there because Corrigan is an Athlete, polevaulting, wrestling, climbing, etc What a Man!

And whats great is in the big fight scenes they look like theyre having FUN. My kind of big screen barn busting FUN!

Strange thing. I know the show is fluff and aimed at little boys but . . Atlantis has no women. There is ONE woman in the whole movie.

Wouldnt bother me except for the skirts, diapers, gladiator men wrestling.

I've always enjoyed Undersea Kingdom partly because it's entertaing and partly because it's so whacked out! It was the first movie serial I ever saw way back in 1970 or '71 on some local cheap tv station. Even at the age of 6 or 7 I knew it was scientifically ridiculous but I loved how wildly imaginative it was. Lot of fun!

I love serials! I find the Captain American one hard to stomach though.

It is. Ever read that Captain AMerica comic in the 1970s that is a flashback to WW2 and cap and bucky have to solve a mystery on teh set of the captain America serial?

They said the stunt men didnt know what to do with a shield . Probably a good thing considering how much trouble the batman had with his cape in his serials.

The Adventures of Captain Marvel is probably the best serial ever, and one of the best comic book adaptations to boot.

King of the Rocket Men is great as well.

And, of course, there's always Flash Gordon!

(And yes, Captain America is pretty tedious)

I've wanted to see Captain Marvel but never had the chance.

King of the Rocket Men is GREAT.

Never saw teh Green Hornet though. Or a Shadow other than that strange TV show.

Ever see the old TV show Captain Z-Ro ?

Captain Marvel is fantastic! I haven't read the Captain American book you mention, but it sounds good. The Phantom is excellent as well.

For some reason, I started getting sales flyers (as big as a newspaper) from Oldies.com.

I haven't ordered anything from them, but I am blown away by how many of the old serials they have for sale.

Here is a link to their online section of serials if anyone is interested. (They have "Undersea Kingdom".)
