they are trying to appeal to a broader audience. you would think they would understand the science fiction crowd better but it is obvious they haven't got a clue
yeah I do not watch it anymore either. they play their stupid b movies all the time and they have no original programming that interests me since BG was cancelled
i am with you Mikey, even AMC has better programming these days

Yeah - they said they wanted to appeal to women more and broaden their appeal, but I think main thing was because they couldn't really own their brand with the old name - the term sci-fi is too common.
For example - you google sci-fi and you get a bunch of stuff - not them. Syfy, different story.
Yeah, I thought the Syfy thing was really lame - though I have to agree with Mikey, who cares? I haven't watched it really in years - not since I got depressed seeing what they did to MST3K after saving it from extinction.
As for the brand thing, seems like they could have just called it the Science Fiction Network and referred to it as SFN, or something.
Reminds me of cooking. You cant make a chili that will please everyone without it sucking and by wanting to do too much they have too many cooks in teh kitchen.
Havent watched it in years. Just noticed it at my Laundrymat.
I kinda got fed up with teh Crossing Over with John Edard thing. It wassnt sci fi. So I havent watched in years.
Something about a giant snake fighting a shark or a terrible CG dinosaur biting Coolio!!
Yeeesh...95% of that stuff makes Roger Corman's works look like Citizen Kane!
I remember years ago they used to show Land of the Giants, Star Trek, Twilight Zone, etc. Poor Sc-Fi Channel has hit the skids!
Am I biased? Did I make that statement based on a personal experience with SyFy?
You bet your ***. They passed on "Hunter Prey" because... Ready for this? They felt it did not have enough CG effects to hit their target demographic and ALSO, and this is DIRECTLY from the email my exec producer got from them; "We recently ran a film that contained a very similar barren, desert environment and the numbers were not good. "Hunter Prey" is a great little film. It showcases Sandy's many talents and is a start to what we're sure will be a very voluminous and prolific career for him. Unfortunately, it doesn't click with what SyFy is programming at this time."

From what I've seen most of their original productions are premeditated bad movies, schlocky titles, marginal fx and stunt casting. They are a modern day version of AIP. So yeah, HP doesn't work for them.

Sci-Fi wasn't hip and edgy enough for their new WWE demographics.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...
