    Alien on Blu-Ray

Just finished watching Alien. Definitely one of my top five favorite movies. And it looked great on BR. A few soft spots here and there, but it really popped. Picked up a few things I never noticed from watching other formats. I can't say enough about how much I love this flick. Much like Halloween (another of my top 5 fav, if not number 1) the movie has VERY little blood. The atmosphere makes the movie. And that is created with precise use of photography, editing, score, set and directing - again, much like Halloween. Casting was dead perfect as well. Many feel Aliens is a better flick and if you are an action junkie, you probably feel the same. I'll take the pure Sci-Fi/Horror of the original any day.

Don't older movies (pre CGI) with a lot of special effects look horrible on blue ray ?

Seems like you'd see TOO MUCH.

That's the great thing about Alien, VERY few special effects. Most of the movie is set builds and they look great. At the very end, when the ship blew up, there were some 80's Tron like light effects to simulate the ship blowing up, and those looked a bit hokey. But that's about it.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind 1977 especially the Doug Trumbull Effects look amazing in Blu Ray.Thats the film that made me a believer of the new format

Oh yeah, CE3K looks great on Blu-ray. It's good to hear that Alien looks nice as well, I'm planning on picking up the set. I really want the limited Japanese Blu-ray set with the Alien and egg, but it's a bit pricey.

I forgot Alien was coming out, I just got the Back To The Future BD set and will have to wait a bit on Alien.

While the effects may not be seamless in light of today's technology, the effects were originally made to be seen on a much larger screen than any of today's TV's so they were designed to be seen much bigger.

I investigated and found that the UK version of this set will play in the USA and is exactly the same in blu ray content except for the British rating markings and perhaps aspects on the packaging. This is what I am paying for it shipped

                      34.99 Euro = 57.91 USA

Thread about this on high def forum:

                      Alien Anthology....57.97

I got the UK set today and gave a look at all of the discs to see if they load and can start playing. They all did fine.

I find it amazing that I was able to get the set sent from the UK for $58 shipped when the US discounted price at this point is around $90.
