I think it sounds like we're in for an exciting series. The mid series cliffhanger involving Amy sounds like a doozy, it's one good way to keep it fresh and exciting. It also means we won't have to wait too long for the Christmas special. I suspect it has something to do with Sherlock being a success, but that's not a bad thing really.
From what I've read so far, the stories are going to be cool, especially the Neil Gaiman one. I hope they keep the same look and feel of the last series as it was definately the best they've made since the show came back IMO. The only thing I hated were the titles but they've grown on me a great deal and have to say I love them now.
