    More Five Doctors talk

Was watching The Five Doctors last night.

Can anyone tell me why almost the entire story is always forgotten in future writings ?

    A few examples .....

The New Series Rassalon is nothing like The Five Doctors Rassilon -- especially considering he's not dead

In School Reunion, Sarah has no memory of The Five Doctors.
Tom Baker is the last Doctor she remembers from The Hand of Fear.

    Also, something I noticed - maybe a mistake ....
In The Five Doctors Mike and Liz are together .....
I'm not 100% sure, but I think they never appeared together in a DW story.

I beleive in the End of time the Doctor states that the timelords took Rasilon from Galifrey's warring past (probably during the war with the vampires) and what's even more interesting is Rassilon is portrayed in a 3rd different light in the Big Finish 8th Doctor Adventures (which predate the new show by a year or more)

so typical of the new show they bypass things that doesn't help their storyline I suppose someone will argue / retcon that the timelords erased the 5 doctors events from her memory

Correct Liz and Mike were never in the same episode but since Liz's departure is off screen (as is Mike's joining unit) it's an easy retcon to have them meet at some point before Terror of the Autons when Jo Joins unit

I've been reading up on the whole Rassilon/Omega/The Other thing.

Do most Who fans consider The Other to be a true part of the mythos? It certainly does go a long way towards explaining many of the inconsistencies and mysteries over the years. Including the part-human revelation from the Fox Movie and the Grandfather/Susan relationship.

I think there is a real big distinction as well between "official history of Gallifrey" taught in schools and the mythology that has sprung up around Rassilon/Omega/The Other, and the actual people themselves.

You have any good links for that? I've read some, and I find the whole idea intrguing and disappointieng they never realy got to run with it.

And back to topic -- I kinda thought any time the Doctior met himself, it was sorta forgotten until necessary again. Besides, really, the show's never been *that* consistent, and has always regularly contradicted some old ep.

I have never been a big enough fan of the show to pick up that but have to say the 5 Doctors is one of the few episodes i have on DVD and I really enjoy watching from time to time. keep hoping for a modern version in the new series/

If Rassilon was brought back to life he would be regenerated no? So he would never be like his immediate, former self. They brought the Master back to fight in the Time War. Since Anthony Ainley played him no actor following has been anything like him.

I don't think she forgot The 5 Doctors Mike. She is fixated on Tom, Doctor #4 for leaving her behind. In 5 Doctors she hangs out with Doctor #3, Jon Pertwee, who never hurt her feelings. She meets #5, Peter Davison, but doesn't actually know he followed #4. So she really harbors no anger towards anyone but #4 and he isn't there for her to vent to.

Weren't Mike & Liz extracted from the Doctor's mind as Jamie & Zoe were? It wouldn't matter if they never met. They both worked for UNIT and would have crossed paths at some point. The Doctor would assume they knew each other.

The whole thing is a mess story wise, listen to Terrance Dicks commentary on the DVD, he's a lot of fun when he expresses his displeasure over some of it.

There are those who consider it non-canon,so I guess your answer could be that.

I consider it cannon. I think the only real problems you have are explaining where the 1st Dr. & Susan are snatched from and where the 2nd Dr. comes from.

It's not one of my favorite Davison stories, but I'd assume it's canon, in as much as any other televised (or Audio Book) story is.

The story's too convuluted with bringing in all the previous incarnations and select companions, but it did what it was intended to do: Provide a nice anniversary celebratory story for Who fans.

Plot-wise..?? It seemed hastily assembled to provide some basis of a story, but it didn't seem particularly strong.

Susan is easy - Pulled away from her life on earth approximately 2070
The First Doctor is tougher as you have to find a way to explain why he's in this garden alone when he never has a point between stories but maybe if it occurs during the events of The Ark or the Dalek Master plan

The 2nd Dr. clearly is referring to events in the 3 Doctors story when he meets the Brigadier's replacement and states his replacement was a disappointment too. For some reason people have assumed he meant he saw his regeneration post-War Games and was visiting from some gap in that story.
