Great article, Brian! Those are my top 2 picks, too.

Cool list. The man was a workhorse. Wasn't he quite the celebrity photographer as well?

              One word: V.I.N.Cent.!!

              Actually, I suppose that's really 4 words...

I really enjoy McDowell--he's "family", y'know. He could be so charming, impishly funny, menacing--sometimes all at once! I'd watch him in anything--he's evem good in throwaway TV stuff like Matlock, Wonder Woman, & Buck Rogers. n

I'd have to say my favorites, though, are:

How Green Was My Valley (a beautiful film, I defy you not to tear up)

Lord Love a Duck (very funny, at least to me)

Bookworm--perfection, even better than Tut & Egghead

                Carol Burnett--the Family skits

                Columbo

                Fright Night

                Dead of Winter

                Batman:TAS

The Grass Harp (a beautifully-crafted small role, one of his last. Glad he got to do it, as did Price in The Whales of August.)

Thanks, Palitoy, for the list--wasn't familiar with Fantastic Journey.

And remember him in that Golem update? Kind of a riff on a Norman Bates-type character..

He sure did a lot, didn't he?

To think he missed a shot at an Oscar for his role as Octavian in 'Cleopatra', because his name was submitted in the wrong category!

Couldn't they have given him a Lifetime Achievment Award or something? They gave them to Jimmy Stewart, Jimmy Cagney and Peter O'Toole!

This was a sign of things to come for Roddy. Even at that young, tender age, you saw the acting phenom that was to be.

It's all in his EYES. The man had the most expressive eyes and face I've ever seen on an actor.

Happy Birthday Roddy, wherever you are. You are, and always will be missed.

As an adult...I really liked him in Fright Night.

                            Roddy was very versatile.
He could play a badguy just as good as he could play a goodguy (see him in Columbo)

He was a great kid actor. One of those natural, non-precious child actors. But my favorite part is Fright Night, maybe not his best role, but my personal favorite.

I think he was wonderful in Fright Night (and Fright Night Part II) as Peter Vincent. I also liked his Night Gallery episode and his character in "A Bug's Life".
