I was browsing Wikipedia today and found this piece of art, the only I have ever seen, of the un-produced DW cartoon. Animation was suppossed to be from Nelvanna, known for the Boba Fett short in the Star Wars Holiday Special, Droids, and the feature Rock & Rule. This is the only artwork I have ever seen connected to the project. The Doctor is unspecified but appears to be Tom Bakers,(tho the hair is different).

I have another cel from this, got it from a Nelvana guy, the Doctor looks more like Egon and his coat has a big stupid question mark on it. I should go dig it out.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

might have been interesting but considering the rest of the animation coming out in those days it probably would have sucked arseComment

Thanks Brian! These are really interesting to look at.
Some of the conceptual art looks rough, yes, like Heavy Metal The Movie. But Nelvanna usually turns out quality animation. I'm not keen on the differences from the TV series but I think it would have won me over. Their cartoons do have some charm. They also made a Christmas special I can't recall the name off it where 3 aliens visit Earth for Christmas and it was pretty good too.Comment

looking at the K9 and "Dalek" concepts I can see why this never got off the ground. I did like the cyberman concept though, I have to say the style does look vey much that in heavy metal, and starchaser, but I like that style, I could see how a new animated series would work like this though.Check out my Electronic Mag here Psycho Styrene Modeling MagazineComment

Hmmmm....
A friend of mine brought up some interesting points:
>these art pieces were strictly for the purposes of "wowing" the clients in order to get the show sold and that, if it had actually happened, the final designs and look of the series would have been redone and simplified for production
They are pretty complicated, especially for early 80's animation. They look a lot like the Droids cartoon, probably because:
>Nelvana was still going through its "Moebius" art stage at the time and had everything looking very derivative of said artist's style.
A LOT of places were enamoured of Moebius back then, and it shows. Not the worst you could do though.
>Is it just me or is there also a Doctor Snuggles vibe in some of those designs
I thought they looked familiar, but couldn't place it! The older looking guy definitely fits the bill!
