Doctor Who McGann TVM to be released in Region 1 N. America

This comes from a guy who posts over at the WhoNA forums. He say 2/entertain has worked out the problem with home distribution rights and the 1996 FOX Doctor Who TV Movie will be released in North America in the coming year:

The Doctor Who News Page: TV Movie coming to North America

    TVshowsonDVD does confirm it.

I have a killer nice copy recorded from cable TV so i'm not really all that excited.

But it will be nice to upgrade just for the special features (if it has any)

That's cool news for DW fans in North America.
I've had it on region 2 for ages, but this new edition with new extras looks to be very promising!

Always wished we could have seen more of Paul McGann as the Doctor. And the TARDIS interior design in the TVM was awesome.

If it happens I will be pleased. It's had 2 releases in the uk on dvd already (2001 & 2007) with a 3rd coming. This is in the works for a uk release so it will have the same features the rumors for the uk revisitation box set release are:
            it's a 2 disc set
Commentary track with Syl and Paul or the director commentary from Geoffrey sax (which should be like listening to a clock tick (This was the only commentary in the the original UK release)
documentary THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH Philip segal recounts how long and hard it was to get Dr who off the ground .
visual effects of spider Dalek test shots
documentary THE WILDERNESS YEARS how Dr who kept going between the movie and the new series
            WHO PETER part two 1989-2009.
documentary STRIPPED for ACTION the comic strip adventure of the 8th Dr.and TOMORROWS TIMES part 8. there's also

overall pretty normal lame extras but I am looking forward to Paul and Sylvester on commentary as both men are veryy funny off the cuff

I actually bought a European VHS copy while abroad and had it converted in '98. I am looking forward to getting this new edition, simply for all the dazzling extras.

                Hmmmm....

I'm kinda mixed on this one. I'll probably get one for completenesses sake, 'specially since the McGann Doctor is cannon.... but I really, REALLY hated the movie.

I used to hate it but i've lightened up on it a bit .....

The main reasons I didn't like it ...

                  1. MaGann's Doctor seems very weak and needs help to do just about everything.

                  2. Did not like the unfunny jokes including the motorcycle policeman driving in the TARDIS ... Will Sasso in the morgue ... and other out-of-place jokes.

                  3. Hated the blatant inconsistencies compared to the Classic Series.
The Eye of Harmony is NOT in the TARDIS ... The Doctor is NOT half human .... etc.

                  4. The story was kind of boring and hard to follow

A few things I liked about it .......

                  1. I like MaGanns suit (seems kind of Hartnell-ish)

                  2. Love the new TARDIS inside ... It that what they call Steampunk ?

                  3. Eric Roberts made a GREAT psycho Master ... Simm looks pitful compared to Roberts.

The major turn off for me will be all of the garbage they'll have before you get to the DVD menu. You know, the ads for the fifth series with Matt Smith and they might have an ad for The Adventures of Sarah Jane, stuff like that.

2 entertain should be called "2 force you to watch ads" at least you have the option to fast forward them but it's like a stinking VHS tape with all the ads

Came in Thursday afternoon,I watched it Thursday night. Here's my 2 cents on the half human thing. I chalk it up to maybe being a side effect of regeneration.

Yeah.... they dismantled the old show in the first 30 seconds or so. Most of the changes were of the “but that’s how EVERYBODY does it!!!” variety. (Like the Doctor being half human ‘cos.... for whatever reason sci-fi fans can’t empathize with a character that’s not human. Even if they’ve loved him for 30+ years....) I could never figure out why the Time Lords would hand over one of THEIR greatest criminals to the Daleks for trial. (Maybe Daleks have the most eqitable legal system in the galaxy?) ‘Couldn’t figure out why the Daleks would LET the Time Lords hand over their greatest criminal. (Haven’t they been at war for, oh.... ETERNITY?!?!?!)

....and the liquid metal Master REALLY bothered me, since the effect was being used for EVERYTHING at the time.

In the real world the Daleks wouldn't even have a trial.

                              EX-TER-MIN-ATE and goodbye

Glad the New Series kept the Daleks basically the same as they were.

For the half human debate, i've heard some people say the Doctor casually considers himself half human because he regenerated on Earth many times .....
