I have done a search on this and found nothing. This has always bothered me in Star Wars. Just before Han in the Falcon shoots the tie fighter in the trench. Darth Vader's targeting computer locks onto Luke's X-wing. Vader says "I have you now." Squeezes the trigger and then a few laser shots shoot out of his Tie fighter before the Falcon gets their shots off. Shouldn't Luke be blown up then or did the Dark Lord flinch? I hadn't watched the movie in a while and for some reason that always bothers me. Is there a fan explanation for this moment or am I the only one who is that nit-picky?

I don't think you're being nit-picky, I get what you're saying... My only guess is they didn't have Vader take Luke out so the hero survived and blew up The Death Star... It's all about good over evil and the farmboy saving the day...
Now I could give you a bullchit answer and say Vader "did" flinch because he didn't want to kill his son... (Which of course would be ridiculous to say as far as SW/New Hope goes because at that time no one knew there'd be a sequel, the few references to Luke's dad were vague/ambiguous and in no way pointed to Vader (at least not IMO). SW/New Hope can be looked at as a stand alone film where there is no Father/Brother/Sister bullcrap and I think it probably would have better for not doing it... But it was a "cliffhanger" so they needed something to draw you to the next installment (Jedi) to see if it was true...

I guess what I'm looking for is why the SFX team put the lasers in there in the first place more than story. Couldn't they have just edited to the ship with out the laser volley coming out of the TIE before the Falcon came in. Oh well. It's all good!Comment

Interesting - I never really thought about it before.
I guess the easy answer is that Vader thought he had Luke, but didn't. Is that where R2 got hit? It's weird - I thought I knew every frame of that movie, but I haven't actually seen it in at least 5 years now and I must be getting senile.Comment

I don't especially recall that one - probably too invested in the story by that point. Personally I like the little errors like that - I was really happy when I saw the "special edition" and they left in that stormtrooper who bangs his head in the Death Star.Comment

Jaime Pressley nude in Luke's cockpit & still I wouldn'ta noticed any logic error
(if it existed) at all.Last edited by huedell; Aug 23, '10, 7:18 AM."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. Well another way of looking at it too is that the dark side is considered the less disciplined of the two. Were he concentrating instead of gloating, his first shot might have nailed Luke. I don't think it's necessarily a flub in logic.Comment

Anakin: You're going to pay for all the Jedi that you killed today, Dooku.
Obi-Wan: We'll take him together. You go in slowly on the left...
Anakin: No, I'm taking him NOW!
Obi-Wan: No Anakin, NO!
Annnnd, in short order, Anakin gets owned by Dooku."No. No no no no no no. You done got me talkin' politics. I didn't wanna'. Like I said y'all, I'm just happy to be alive. I always chalked it up to Vader being overconfident. Plus if Luke is using the Force maybe it's protecting him from harm as well as helping him nail the shot.
Didn't they also fire more than one shot to kill a fighter craft? It was usually a burst of fire rather than one shot will score you a hit. Just like in WWII dogfights. Vader is interrupted by Han Solo before he completes his burst.Comment

Looking back on it don't you think VAder should have sensed a huge frieghter baring down on him? Jedis in the prequels have almost super human senses..... My take on the OP scene was that it all happened at the same time. Just as vader says I have you the falcon comes in . Like a spilt screen deal. Lukes doing his thing at the same time vader is doing his at the same time Han is coming in......Of coarse a Ex jedi should be able to handle it......But judging from that pathetic light sabre duel Vader is on his way to the old folks home any way. What NO flips?Comment
