It was just announced that they will be coming to blu-ray in 2011, but as a box set with all six movies.

I can't get excited for this, because I don't like being forced to buy the prequels and special editions. Even if the original trilogy theatrical releases are included, I will probably just stick to the last DVD releases that include the originals.

Interesting. I guarantee you it will come with a "limited edition" 3 3/4 inch action figure to entice fans to take the plunge. Probably of Lucas himself!

I guarantee that this is only for the first release...then they will offer them individually. Lucas is a greedy S.O.B....he will miss no opportunity to make Money. I'll wait.

I'd say you're on the money here.

The SW Blu-Ray box set will NOT have the theatrical cuts of the original trilogy. Only the special editions. To heck with it then. No way I am buying it now. At least the DVDs had the theatrical cuts as "bonus feature." To bad they were letterboxed rips off the old Laser Disc versions and not enhanced for widescreen tvs.

He makes a fortune off this stuff but yet it would be too expensive to give the classic films a little clean up? What a load.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

                He's a smart business man...and you're a smart customer.

The only way we can get our point across (no more unwanted discs, George), is by not buying them.

Over the years I have bought so many different releases of the original trilogy as well as the prequels on DVD. misc. moves have had some get lost, others borrowed and not returned, etc... So what I've done now is I ripped all six and burned them on to two dvd's (3 on 1, 3 on the other)

i've spent enough with Lucas. No more.

are there any cool bonus features on the bluray editions that might make it wortwhile getting? I see no point in buying yet another version either, unless there is something really cool about the new release. I have all 6 on DVD already and the up to bluray is not that good that I would buy it solely for bluray quality

As well as the deleted scenes, I'm hoping they'll include the vintage making of documentaries, The Making of Star Wars, SPFX: The Empire Strikes Back, Classic Creatures: Return of the Jedi, and From Star Wars to Jedi: The Making of a Saga.

The last time they were included in a box set with the SW movies was in the awesome ISD Executor metal tin VHS trilogy set back in the 90s.

More vintage stuff from the archives please, GL!

                              Hmmmm....

I'd THINK about upgrading my set IF they included a restored version of the Holiday Special.

Y'hear that Lucas? No singing Maude, NO SALE!
