That's one way to make Matt Smith look better

Was just over at TNI and they've got it posted they want to cast Johnny Depp in the Doctor Who movie coming out in 2012.

      Errrrrrrrrr
I love Johnny Depp and all his movies, but he has no place in Dr. Who

Depp is a fan of the show (I hear) but there's no way they could come up with enough money for him.

is this an American production? first I am hearing of it. Johnny Depp could bring a lot of exposure to Dr. Who and make him more mainstream in the states. Sounds like a win win to me. Guy is a great actor and can do a brittish accent very well

Johnny Depp I could possibly live with... but don't you dare say it'll be a Tim Burton production (their bromance has gone too far) Seriously, are they attached at the buttcheek or what? Throw in Helena Bonham Carter as his companion and I think I may gouge my eyes out.

Seeing as how RTD is behind the movie,I really shouldn't be surprised should I?

Here's my idea for a Dr Who movie ....

First thing, call Christopher Eccleston ... I'm sure he'd be happy to star in a "movie"

Set the story in the Time War and start off with McGann but of course he'll regenerate into Eccleston toward the beginning of the film.

This would work good because ......
                  1. Eccleston is already a well loved established Doctor
                  2. Eccleston is a semi popular movie actor
                  3. RTD started the whole Time War stuff anyway.
                  4. New Series fans will love it.
                  5. Classic fans will love it.

The whole trick is keeping the movie in the cannon time line of the series.

Going out of cannon will produce the same thing as what happened with Peter Cushing.
The Cushing movies were an interesting oddity, but never taken seriously

That's because they were Dalek Movies not Doctor Who Movies.
They were made to cash in on the Daleks popularity at that time.

                      Hmmmm....

I think Depp COULD do it.... but he'd distract from the character too much. It wouldn't be "Look! Doctor Who is running from a Dalek!" it'd be "Look! Johnny Depp is running from a Dalek and wearing a weird coat!"

If they were to make an American Dr Who movie --- or ANY Dr Who movie for that matter I wish they would go with an older actor -- and not Liam Neeson (who seems to play in as many movies as Will Farrell these days)

I said this before, but I think the House guy (I forgot his name) would be a good Doctor Who

I was just going to say does that mean Tim Burton is directing it?

                            Hmmmm....

I thought Rowan Atkinson did a GREAT job playing the Doctor, although the last time we discussed this Brian Blessed was mentioned....

Hugh Laurie would be Brilliant as the Doctor. He has great acting chops, his range goes from Black Adder (prince Regent, Lt honorable, and others), to Stewart Little (the dad), through 101 dalmations (he's the lead henchman japser in the glen close live action one) and House. He is a well known and successful actor and commercial success on both sides of the pond, and he is actually British (puts on a great Yank accent doesn't he)
he is an Officer of the British Empire (which means he isn't knighted but he is Sir hugh Laurie when announced at parties very cool)
