Whats sad is the 1701 D doesnt even seem to fit in its own universe.

Major battle scenes with Star fleet. (Borg, Dominion War Etc) Only the Galaxy class seems to stand out. Others seem like a logical progression or similar constructed fleet.

      1. NCC-1701-A (Classic Movies -- the perfect rendition of the ship)
      2. NCC-1701 (TV series -- the classic I grew up on)
      3. NCC-1701-D (Next Generation Enterprise -- simply for the nostalgia of the excitement of ST returning as something new)

I never really cared for any of the rest . . .

      4. NCC-1701-C (Next Gen - Yesterday's Enterprise -- OK "intermediate" design)
      5. NCC-1701-B (Excelsior Class - Generations -- I would've preferred at least a normal Excelsior-class ship w/o the hull expansions)
      6 NCC-1701-E (Next Gen - First Contact - overdesigned)
      7. NCC-1701 (New Movie - overdesigned and unbalanced-looking)

Only these 3 were ever designed to be "The Enterprise"

          1. NCC-1701 (TV series) - an original design like no other!

          2. NCC-1701-A (Classic Movies 1-6) - I like most of the upgrade on this design. Especially the interiors of the ship. I think the sides of the engines are wrong. IMHO they should look more like the Excelsior's engines.

          3. NCC-1701-D (Next Generation Enterprise) - This was a hard pill to swallow when it first came out; but I get the idea that this design was supposed to be like sculpture. It is unlikely Starfleet would do that but I get it. It's gone anyway so I can accept it.

All of these were named Enterprise by default.

          4. NCC-1701-B (Excelsior Class - Generations) - Couldn't just slap a new decal on the model. Berman had to F-it up.

          5. NCC-1701-C (Next Gen - Yesterday's Enterprise) - Not a bad design, per se, but it isn't actually the design Andrew Probert came up with.

6 NCC-1701-E (Next Gen - First Contact +) - The designer of this one just swiped details from every ship that didn't match and put them together-mostly the Excelsior. It might be good if certain things on it were changed.

          7. NCC-1701 (New Movie) - I don't hate it but there is too much exaggeration on the parts of this ship like it's made of silly putty. It's the Plastic Man Enterprise.

Even though i'm not a fan of the Enterprise-D and almost hate it I do have some respect for it because it's design was cleared by Gene Roddenberry himself.

It basically looks like a giant behind sat on the movie Enterprise and flattened it out

Capt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"
Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"

It's almost like an ocean liner converted to troop transport duty compared to every other starship design. must have been designed during an extended peace

I beleive the redisgn to the B hull from the exceslior were actually driven by the effects people (berman just signed off on the changes). It was purly to prevent damage to the actual model since they were also using it alot for the ST tv shows so they fattened it up to allow them to damage the belly and show exposed to space decks

The New Movie version is consistantly scoring last or almost last.

This leads me to wonder how the design ever got approved ?

because Fans (thank goodness) don't make those decisions.
