Well that stinks. His work just seemed to be getting better and better. I just got done talking to a friend about how great Hellboy 2 was and how his style fits Tolkien's world perfectly. The funniest thing about that article is the comments below and all of the people saying they were never really interested in a Hobbit movie. Seems to be a lot of "movie" fans as opposed to Tolkien fans. The Hobbit is one of the greatest stories ever written, how could you not want to see it in movie form if a good version is made.

I was a bit upset that Jackson didnt want to direct this, but del Torro was the only man I could see to pull this of, with his style. Lets just hope Jackson takes over and does it now. This was sceduled for next year, this is one movie in the pipelines that I was most looking forward to.

You know after thinking about it, there is the possibility that maybe Jackson did want to step back in or things were not working out and this is the "PC" way of handling the situation.

Well if Del Toro isn't going to do it now then I hope somehow Jackson is able to step into the directors chair.
Capt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"
Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"
Capt. Kirk: "No, Mr. Spock, I didn't think you would be"

I was thinking the same thing as tinkerbee. I would be very surprised if Peter Jackson does not pick up directing duties now.

It would be the most appropriate choice.

I think the studio is stalling to get Jackson to direct when he is available. However if that's not the case, they did say they wanted Sam Riami to do it and he's not attached to Spider-Man anymore.

Sam Raimi?????? Oh god please no. The image of dancing Spiderman is still burned in my brain and now I am picturing a dancing Gandalf or Thorin Oakenshield.

Sam Raimi is brilllaint!, been following since Evil Dead and Army of Darkness and Darkman . I think New Line was talking to Him Before they went Del Toro.
but something happend in the mettings maybe it was money? he was originally their first choice I think New Line thought Sony was ready to make another Spiderman Glad thats done. anyways he knows the genra and has great respect for it he would be perfect ,Del Toro needs to finish a third Hellboy which I bet is what he is doing ?
