I was just watching the cold blood episode of the new series, and is it just me or does this series seem to have borrowed a lot from Pertwee, Baker and Davidson episodes.

I admit I'm a sad Doctor Who fan and I was a great fan of the old show growing up with tom baker as the Doctor, but I have also been a fan of the new series, but it seems to me they are doing the same here as the did in the 80's with peter davidson, just grinding it into the ground(just my view) with recycling old story ideas.

I was thinking of the Hungry earth reminded me of the green death one wirh the maggots down to the infected guy and this cold blood one has a lot of touches of the cyberman episode with nyssa teegan and adric (the title escapes me) as well as the silurians and seadevils attacking the underwater episode.

Has anyone else noticed this trend? if so whats your opinion on it? do you think that if they can't have original Ideas the show should finish or just sack the writers and producers and get in people who can think of new stories? perhaps a regeneration should be scheduled soon?

I don't care for this season and Matt Smith.

For me it almost seems as if the show was cancelled when Tennant and RTD left.

As far as comparing it with the classic series, the only thing similar is their apparent budgets

"Earthshock"'s the Davison episode with the Cybers, and I've only seen the first episode of Smith so far..

On Arabian cable here, I'm watching the Tennant season with Donna (no dubbing, just arabic subtitles across the bottom..)

I think the sonic screwdriver gets used way too often. He needs to loose it for a few episodes. I kind of like the dimensional rift story line...

Who is getting better. Smith is starting to find his way. He's not channeling Tennant nearly so much and is starting to find his own voice. You're right about the screwdriver thing. Smith waves that thing around like a conductor at the orchestra. It's amazing that thing doesn't burst into flame from the air friction.

The character that's really bothering me is Pond. She chews up scenery like a mulching mower. As good as she looked in that first episode (I can't tell you how badly I wanted to be arrested), she is now that annoying.

I agree with you. Amy is coming off as being very peevish and immature. I really feel sorry for her fiancee who seems to be the well rounded and sensible person in the couple. Plus there seems to be too much emphasis being put into their relationship and Amy's "choice". Rose and Mickey was on the same level while Amy and her boyfriend are clearly not. Amy doesn't get yet that no companion has permanently stayed with the Doctor.

That would be so cool. The old man would have to go too and there could be all these scenes where the Dr. walks into a room when they're trying to get busy.
