Just like Star Blazers previously (but not anymore)...you are really missing the boat.

I would bet my house...if you give it a chance...you'll love early X-Files (not the last two or three seasons though).

I know you are a fan of The Night Stalker...right?

Well...The X-Files was greatly influenced by that show...and it's very similar...except the X-Files...aside from paranormal and monsters...it also dealt with extraterrestrials.

As a matter of fact...Mr Kolchack himself...Darren McGavin...was in The X-Files as well...two episodes back in 1999...they were paying a tribute to him...

Ray, is it one of these?:

          "Colony"

Mulder and Scully track an alien bounty hunter who is killing medical doctors who have something strange in common: they are all clones. Mulder is soon summoned to a family emergency to discover that sister Samantha has returned. Samantha identifies the bounty hunter as a shape-shifter, and Scully, investigating on her own, is pursued by him.

          "Irresistible"

A death fetishist who collects hair and fingernails from the dead steps up his obsession to killing his soon-to-be collectibles himself. Profoundly disturbed by the case, Scully returns to Washington to do research and discusses her fears with a counselor. Upon returning to Minneapolis, Scully is kidnapped by the chilling psychopath.
Capt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"
Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"
Capt. Kirk: "No, Mr. Spock, I didn't think you would be"

They've already been mentioned but here ya go:

Clyde Bruckman's Final Repose - Peter Boyle got the guest star Emmy for a reason
Humbug - for The Enigma & Vincent Schiavelli ( I know that's spelled wrong)
Jose Chung's From Outer Space - for sending up Whitley Strieber, for the original MIBs, but most all for CNR Also it had a sequel episode on Millenium

Home gets an honorable mention as the most disturbing episode & the Andy Griffiths Show references

One that a lot of people seemed to like that I didn't dig was the one with the deformed but nice teen who was into Cher. The title eludes me.

edit: "The Post-Modern Prometheus" thanks wyldpny

              Google search:
              Cher (I) - Biography
Cher was the subject of an episode of "The X Files" (1993) called "The Post-Modern Prometheus" (5X06; first aired November 3, 1997). This episode concerned a deformed man who adored Cher because of her role in Mask (1985), in which her character cared for her deformed son.

Were those all written by the same guy or something? I seem to recall something about all the funny ones being written by the same guy. I also liked the one with Peter Boyle where he could touch someone and tell them how they're going to die. Mulder says he doesn't want to know how he dies, and Boyle says something like "Okay, well all I'm going to say is that autoerotic asphyxiation is a horrible way to go."
