I don't know why but lately I've been wondering how Doctor Who might have turned out had Ridley Scott had stayed. Would things have changed, stayed the same? Would he have directed episodes, become a producer later? I guess I blame the new Robin Hood movie for making me wonder.

How was Ridley Scott attached to Doctor Who?
As much as I love Blade Runner and Alien, not much of his stuff has really grabbed me on the same level since the eighties. He's still a solid filmmaker, but not quite the innovator he was at the beginning of his career. -
Like K-9, Cyberman, UNIT, and most recurring characters, the Daleks are the intelelctual property of the writer who created them. The design aesthectic of the daleks is owned by the bbc. To this day every bbc appearance of k-9 pays a royalty to Bob Baker and the estate of Dave martin (hence why they use a completely differnt design for k9 in the new australian show) Actually K9's appearance on sarah jane was part of an agreement with Bob baker so he could use the bbc k9 design in the first episode of his series. Terry nation was experinced enough to get a better contract when he gave them that first script to insure he continued to be paid for their use and had control over their use so he could try to market them elsewhere.Comment
