I always assumed the 12 regeneration rule was a physical thing and couldn't be extended. But back in the 80's, I didn't really think it was going to matter because I didn't think Who would last that long.
I wouldn't be surprised if the producers started scrubbing out some of the previous Doctors like Paul McGann. I can see removing him from the list of "actual Doctors" since he was a one shot movie Doctor like Peter Cushing, Trevor Martin and the others who played the Doctor one time in a movie.
God forbid Hartnell or Troughton are removed from the official list, but their episodes were before the whole Time Lord mythology was even created. And...many of their episodes are missing, especially Troughtons and I could almost see them "ignoring" those 2 Doctor's when it comes to continuity....much like they do the Movie Doctors.
Or, they might just do a story and extended the lives or simply go on and never mention the 12 regeneration rule again. That's the simplest way to go.
As for killing Harry...I wouldn't have minded. I wasn't terribly attached to him. His death would probably have had a greater impact on Sarah Jane than Tom Baker. But it would have been interesting to see a Tom Baker reaction to that kind of traumatic event.
I vaguely remember the Trial of a Timelord story. Honestly, I wasn't much of a Colin Baker fan...too prickly for my liking. I much preferred Pertwee and Tom, but really wish there was more Troughton episodes floating around.
>Is the Trial of the Time Lord series worth checking out?
I'd say yes; but don't expect something wonderfully amazing. It's all over the place, and there are a few really obvious last minute changes.... made durned near mid-sentence. It also seems like an attempt to flesh out the whole Time Lord mythology, which also meets with mixed results. And remember I'm a completist, with a high tolerance for cheese. (THat may affect my perceptions a bit.)
>How about Sarah Jane?
....who they HAVE killed, at least once.
>I can see removing him from the list of "actual Doctors" since he was a one shot movie Doctor
....except that he's been appearing regularly in the radio plays. (Or so I"m told, since I haven't heard any of them....)
>I always assumed the 12 regeneration rule was a physical thing and couldn't be extended.
Yeah, it sort of gets mentioned and then kinda goes back into the background. I'm suspecting they'll ignore it for the new show; having substituted the "it causes all sorts of stress and takes a lot of energy" clause so's to explain why not every Time Lord comes back.
When I saw Adric die, it was like a JFK moment for me. I still remember where I was (an uncle's house) at that moment. I spent alot of time disliking him, but still couldn't believe he was gone...
I like your Turlough idea Mike. It would have been perfect! Alas, Davison already lost Adric, so the writers probably weren't looking to kill off another Davison companion. Great idea though...
SAME HERE.. I liked Adric, and I just brought back the 'Earthshock' DVD with me back to Kuwait here.. I watched Ep 4 the other night. The Davison DVD commentaries are THE FUNNIEST, especially the early ones with all the companions.. Everyone's having such a great time reminiscing..
