I've been watching because I like the genre, but not really liking the show. The highlights for me have been the episodes featuring the bald 'observer' guys; I could take or leave the rest.
But tonight's episode was the most interesting so far. I like the whole motif of them being stuck in the parallel world. The whole monster/weirdness of the week the show has mostly been since it started has been really dull. I feel like X files did it better.
I just watched the ep where he meets the waitress that burns him the CD peter from boston. All I can say is about time and this show rocks!!!
Looking forward to season 3.
“When you say “It’s hard”, it actually means “I’m not strong enough to fight for it”. Stop saying its hard. Think positive!”
My one bit of disappointment was that Alt Walter didn't have a sinister goatee!
A shame that Nimoy is retiring. I've been reading the Fringe comic book prequel series and would have loved to see some Walter/William Bell interaction.
I'm loving this show and looking forward to watching the last two episodes of the season. A lot of people have compared it to the X-Files but I think it's much better. Just Walter Bishop alone makes it worth viewing.
The wife was the original person to get hooked but I have to admit the mad scientist stuff keeps me interested. I was worried early on that it was falling into a formula but it seems to have avoided that nicely.

I think the biggest difference between Fringe and X-Files is that they seem to have figured out their backstory and everything they are building towards actually makes sense as it's revealed without frustrating the viewer with continual red herrings because they actually hadn't fleshed out the conspiracy angle on X-Files enough in the beginning.
Even the prequel comic book series detailing the early days of Bishop and Bell has fit quite nicely to the overall story.
I think the only thread that really has been left dangling in an unsatisfactory way was the original importance of Olivia's "psychic" connection with her former partner/lover, but I guess that is the reality of network TV when that actor goes over to star in Human Target.

Not to mention when you're involved in a divorce with the person in real life.

Ah! Is that the situation? I didn't realize they were married. Kind of gives it a whole new subtext. Like finding out that Dexter is married to his "sister" in real life. Or how incestual the Brady clan were.
