I remember first watching this movie over Christmas break when I was around nine years old or so, on one of the PBS stations, I think it was Channel 13.
They used to show old movies a lot, especially during the holidays.
I saw Nosferatu, Phantom of the Opera, etc.
But this was one of the most intense movies I remember seeing.
What struck me most was the visual of the underground workers shuffling into the elevators as they changed shifts. They were all in grey rags, with their heads down, and no emotions on their faces.
All of their kids were dressed in rags too, and looked like half starved puppies.
Real intense images when your only nine.
I had nightmares about it for weeks.
But it's still one of my favorite movies.JediJaidaComment
