    Finally! Nuclear Man is found!

    No really.

I always kind of wondered what happened to Mark Pillow after the disastrous Superman 4.

So, he finally turned up in this Spanish article

Fortaleza de la Soledad: La casa de SUPERMAN en Latinoamérica - ¿Qué se hizo: Mark Pillow?

which I put through Google translator but I don't know if the result is linkable so I put the original link first.

I look upon the movie in the same way these days.

But back in the day, I was one of the few people that went to see Superman 4 on opening day. Superman 1 was on cable a lot back then and I was hooked on the first movie (and liked the 2 followups) I was so enthused that Gene Hackman was back, Margot Kidder was back in as something more than a cameo and I was all set for something comparable to Superman 1 or 2.

Then, the opening credits came on and the Superman title was all stretched out because whomever superimposed the credits forgot to squeeze the title to match the anamorphic squeeze on the film (on the plus side, when the titles were squeezed for the old pan and scan videotapes the title was perfect). I thought "That was kind of careless".

Then, we see Superman rescue the Russians on the space station looking like he was pasted to the background (and it looked like they used the same exact footage of him coming to camera in the subway rescue).

And then Jon Cryer made me miss Ned Beaty.

And then, I sense something was cut from the movie because the Superman I know would visit the boy that wanted him to denuke the world and tell him why he couldn't.

and then Nuclear Man looked like he jumped out of He Man and the Masters of The Universe into WWF before he came to the movie.

and then, Nuclear man took Lacy Warfield into space!

I came out of the movie feeling like a kid discovering Santa Claus wasn't real.

But now, I do get a kick out of the movie, the awesome cut rate special effects and goofs.

One reoccurring goof made Chris Reeve look chunky.

Whenever Chris Reeve was wearing the flying harness, it was concealed in the shorts. This gave him a thick wasted look. In the previous movies, they hid it a lot with the cape, camera angles and quick cuts.

In Superman 4, they don't hide it very much and even though Chris was in great shape for that movie, he often looks chunky around the waste. And I heard some critics comment on it.

        Awesome post!

Very cool to see his setbacks in his life didn't keep him from moving forward.

I always wondered why Lex Luthor would wear a wig with a bald spot in it.

Although I saw the movie in theaters and even own it on DVd today, it was a really bad movie, the effects were ****poor and the plot was garbage

I can barely watch S4---not my type of humor...and the whole movie
seems to have an air of cheapness and too much of a "hit you over the head" message--the only scene I think is good is when Lois visits "sick" Clark...
and, I admit I kinda like the slapstick of the "double date" scene.
When favorite scenes in the movie are Clark scenes...you know yer not
liking a SUPERMAN movie all that much.

Any chance to see Christopher Reeve as Superman is a good thing. It's too bad the powers that be didn't give this movie a bigger budget and proper treatment. It could have been so much better. Still, I watch it occasionally.

                  I'll say this:

I really HATED the film (bad effects, bad acting, bad script)

HOWEVER, the poster showing Superman flying toward space with a nuclear warhead that he has just ripped off of a missile in a silo down below was COOL AS HELL!

And that tag line SO made me want to see the movie!

"Nuclear power. In the best hands, it is dangerous. In the hands of LEX LUTHOR it is pure evil.

This is Superman's greatest battle. And it is for all of us.
                  "

Because Gene Hackman was/is a pill.

When Spacey ripped his wig off at the end of the first scene
in SUPERMAN RETURNS and said "You can keep this.",
I was like: "Up yours Gene!"

I've had a hard time sitting thru any of the movies, but the last two stunk on ice.

Its funny I never noticed you criticize 1 and/or 2.
I respect that. That's because in hindsight I like 1 and 2 quite less than
                        I used to...

...and I think S2 is the single most overrated 70s/80s kid fantasy movie
in current day comicbook fan circles....I still think its a cool enough movie
granted....but not this incredible piece all should aspire to as its been
                        touted for years..

And one more thing, I don't expect people to enjoy S3 (a highly panned
movie), and I won't go into it why I think its a good movie (lord knows
I have in the past with very little result)
but the most confusing thing is that people don't seem to notice
the notable simillarity in "Lester" tone in S2 and S3.

However, people (like yourself) consistently DO lump S3 in with S4,
and I think that's unfair to the S3 "team". For one, S3 actually comes
across as a finished movie while S4 seems so unbelievably flimsy in its
                        approach/production style, I don't even see S3 and S4 in the same
                        ballpark qualitywise.

I'd rather watch just about any other superhero movie than S4.

I know...I know.... the best I can hope to hear is that "they're both horrid films but just two DIFFERENT "types" of horrid".

                        Such is life.

sitting thru them as an adult I should have added. The last two are bad for a lot of reasons. Lame and/or overused villains, lack of Margot Kidder in 3 (like she's done a lot of other work outside Superman and in big demand)

Zod is the REAL star of that series (I'm half-serious----I love me some Reeve)
