I Haven't Cried Like That Since Star Trek II :(

No real point to this post, but I just needed to vent somewhere where people might empathize-
I finally got around to catching up on my David Tennant Dr. Who (thank you, John) and watched 'The End of Time' last night. I can't believe I found myself getting weepy over Tennant's departure!!! WHAT A WUSS!!!

I'm really surprise how attached I have become to this incarnation. He was just the right level of goofiness, self-righteousness, nobility and cool. This Doctor was, for me, a real hero. In fact, I think he is my favorite Doctor.

There! I said it. Compete nerdiness revealed.

I will watch Matt Smith with an open mind, but it will be ompossible not to compare. Then again, I never thought I'd like a Dr better than Tom Baker.

For me, it was the old man that really sold it. Great actor.

A wonderful "human" reaction on the Doctor's part as well, the initial frustration and unkindness before pulling himself together and facing it with a relative stiff upper lip and graciousness.

I didn't get weepy, but I'm still stinging from BSG going away. I feel your pain.

I like Tennant, but the sobby "I don't want to go" scene never got to me.

If anything I kind of slightly felt the opposite because timewise Tennant really wasn't the Doctor all that long.

Tennant was roughly The Doctor for 47 hours

compare that to Tom Baker who was the Doctor for about 167 hours

I just don't think Tennant was there long enough for me to get really attached to him.

I do think that one line, "I don't want to go." did not work for me. But I loved him facing up and visiting with his companions one last time. It was that interaction that really jerked the tearsf or me.

The again, I get weepy at AT&T commercials. She called her dad (sniff, sniff)... I'm fine. I just have something in my eye...

I was moved by it as well, a fitting send off to a great Doctor.

However, I must admit that I really enjoyed the few glimpses of Smith as well.

                .
so far the new doctor seems pretty cool too but he is very cartoonish looking. his companion is a hotty though.

I remember seeing STIIWOK in the theater and I cried when Spock died but I was a kid. The same when Vader died too he is my favorite.

I think the score emphasized the drama of the moment. This Doctor unlike his previous selves didn't stoically accept his fate.

i was very sorry to see david go, he was excellent, however that end just dragged out forever and sort of spoiled it for me. way too self-indulgent. but i did shed a tear when he finally left. he will be missed.

ST2 I didn't cry when spock died (I chocked up a bit) but I completely lost it during the eulogy when Scotty piped amazing grace

The last 15 minutes when Tennat says farewell was good but it was like when my Gran was dying she visited everyone to say goodbye without us knowing she was saying a last goodbye. I felt it made his death by radiaition anticlimatic ....wee 67 look away classic who spoiler coming....

whereas 3 and 5 (Jon and Peter) die very quickly after their lethal doses of radiation

It took me multiple viewings to fully appreciate the Doctor's all too human reaction to his fate. I wanted heroic not, ya'know, real, but it clicked with me in a very real way. I think that it was nice to show that he isn't immortal in the classical sense and that dying really does mean something to him. I will miss David Tennant, but I've really got a good feeling about Matt Smith. He seems just cocky and spastic enough.

I did love the scene with Bernard Cribbins and Tennant in the coffee shop. It did move me. And now that I've seen some eps with Matt Smith, it moves me even more.
Many will disagree with me, but I haven't liked any of the new eps.
Poor story telling, huge gaps in logic, and a hyperactive Matt Smith.
So I've done the only sensible thing: rewatch some classic episodes on DVD....

PS: I cried when Spock died, and ET, too.
