I have to disagree on Ace. I thought she was an excellent companion and her relationship with the Doctor had some real chemistry.
yeah I agree, to me it's the best thing JNT did with the series, that was an entirely new relationship for the Doctor.

Susan is such a lingering mystery. They make such a big deal of thre Doctor being alone, I wonder if they are intentionally not touching it.
I think it sort of paints the series in a corner. Susan was such an early creation and she's sort of been swept away with other things that don't mesh like the first doctor's clothes regenerating.

Yeah; especially since her last story featured the Daleks taking over the Earth in what would NOW be the past.

And Ace was my favourite companion. She was kinda like Jamie with ADD. It was interesting how they played up the more paternal relation between her and "the Professor."

The Dalek invasion of Earth which appears in the Hartnell story happens in the 22nd century ( around 2150 ), it's one of the fixed points in time.

In the 8th Doctor Novel " Legacy of the Daleks ", which takes place 30 years after the tv story, Susan still looks very young and wears padding and make up to make her look older. It's this " disguise " that she is wearing in the 5 Doctors.

At the end, she strands the Master on Tersurus after disfiguring him and escapes in his Tardis. Which leads into the Deadly Assassin.
Technically she can still return in a new body as she's a Timelord too.

Regarding Davison just nodding to her in the 5 Doctors, he has the memory of this meeting from his previous 3 selves ( not counting Tom, who was stuck in a Time Loop ) so it wouldn't be a big Whoopee moment to him.
You could also say that he felt guilty for abandoning her in the first place.

I know this goes against the grain of everything Doctor Who but I never really accepted each incarnation as the same person.

To me they're more of a combination of clones and DAX on DS9

I think Susan would look at Davison (or any Doctor not Hartnell) and consider them a "copy" of her grandfather.

Companions don't do this because each "clone" is THEIR Doctor.

I don't think Susan was being snotty ... I think she may just not consider anyone else her real grandfather.

Yeah, the Three Doctors kind of gives that feeling but I think the show's canon has been pretty steadfast that they are the same dude.

Yea, in especially the new series they do go out of their way to say they're the same person.
David Tennant in the Christmas Invasion ...........

Harriot Jones ---- what happened to my Doctor ?

Tennant --------- I'm him, i'm literally him - same man you faced .....

I always thought that Russell blew it big time, he had so many moments when there are planets in the sky or raining down daleks or cyberman appearing from thin air and in every one of these he should have hired back any old companion that's on earth to look up in the sky and say "Doctor, Where are you?" they could have used:

                Ian
                Dodo
                Polly
                Victoria
                Brig
                Benton
                Yates
                Jo
                Sarah -ok they did
                Tegan

10 people and only sarah was uased as they had already brought her back. what a waste!

Even though I feel the same, I can also see the other side of the coin.
Not counting The Five Doctors, how many times did a former companion appear (even in a cameo) with a new current Doctor in the Classic Series ?

I think RTD's might have been scared if he did too many Classic Series cameos (even by former baddies) the New Series would be pigeon-holed a homage show rather than a legitamate conclusion of the Classic Series.

I suspect not using vintage enemies was a money thing as they would have to pay a royalty to the monster's or companions creator. Even the appearance of the MACRA in Gridlock was fleeting (did the even call them Macra?) The K-9, Daleks, and Cybermen are worth the expense I don't know if many others are

including the tom Baker Unit stories after Robot, there are only four (Terror of the Zygons, Android Invasion, mawdryn Undead, Two doctors) excluding them and 2 Doctors,

it was far more common for a former who actor to return in some other role
