So do the colours denote rank or department (like Star Trek) or something?
What were the colour rankings in previous series and the Cushing Movies? I remember there were Black, Gold and Red Daleks in the past that had some kind of special status.
They said in the documentary i watched that the colors did denote rank or occupation. The white one was the leader, unfortunatly i can't remember the others.
I don't think it was ever officially established that a Dalek color denotes a task or rank.
Perhaps in a few once-offs, but never officially.
Since the B&W Who's didn't have color the Daleks were painted with colors that best showed up on B&W TV's.
agreed, while at times special color scemes were given a dalek "title" (gold & black for a supreme in Planet of the daleks for instance) it changed from 1 apearance to another. this site gives as good a breeakdown as any I've come across
There's apparently a "Scientist Dalek", a "Drone Dalek", an "Eternal Dalek" (huh?), according to Moffat.
I think the happy colours take away some of the menace. The hump kinda destroys the sleeker lines. They still look like a line-up of new cars.
And can somebody please explain to me how, in the middle of a Dalek attack, the British modified Spitfires for "outer space duty" in like five minutes? Called in the A-Team?

Dalek technology in the guise of the scientist was used to make it happen. Some sort of bubble around the craft.

Yeah Moffat hinted in Dr Who Confidential we will see more of the Eternal Dalek.
Have to agree they look like Bumper Cars but they are the new generation of Daleks.....well pure Dalek with a different packet colour
I don't mind the new designs, 'cos they're not too far removed from the original. It still looks like a Dalek, not a robot spider/centaur. *shudder*
The colours have historicly denoted rank, and/or job. But there's no mention that the white ones are Imperial Daleks; a separate branch hostile to the others, formed after the Daleks abandoned Davros as their leader.
I'm not really a fan of the new look.
Maybe if they hadn't made them so big it wouldn't be as bad.
I found these pic's on the internet a few years ago, it seems these were the basis for the new design.
They're a pretty close match, even down to the sensor globes missing from the back of the skirt.
