My take on the new Movie Enterprise

I absolutely detest the styling of the Enterprise from the new movie, so I did some ps doodling, adding in some elements from the original and Real movie Enterprise. I also moved the dorsal forward. It balances out the look of the ship quite a bit, but still needs work!!

It took me awhile to realize that you have the original secondary hull in there. It looks much more balanced now.

Guess I should have said what I added/removed huh?

Your right, I added part of the secondary hull from the original--the lower portion, and the middle front section. The upper secondary hull is the new movie one. The deflector dish is a hubrid of the original (well later original) and new movie one. The rear portion of the secondary hull is from the original movie Enterprise, as is the nacelle struts.

I shortened up the warp engines (and added the original pin stripe/NCC bit), otherwise they are the movie ones. Still look too big for the ship in my opinion?

Primary hull and dorsal connector are the new movie one intact, just moved forward ...where it should have been all along!

Great work! My main gripe with the movie ship was the size of the engine nacelles. I hope this will be fixed in the next movie. Those engines are so large they are a nice big target too.

Agree with you on the nacelles. Did a little more tinkering (pardon the gloppy coloring). Come to the conclusion you cant improve on the original. they should have left well enough alone and stuck with a classic!!

The funny thing is that the only part that I have not liked about the new look ship is the part that you kept. The "neck" being inverted and flipped. It reminds me of when I was a kid and tried to draw a picture of the Enterprise and couldn't quite grasp the angle I needed to draw in the lines to make it look like on the TV show.

I did swap out the neck for the tmp version...but then it looks exactly like the tmp ship.
I think Jeffries hit the nail squarely on the head when he designed this ship, and his (and Mike Minors) refit was just icing on the cake. The more mistakes on the new ship that I fix, the more it clearly looks like either of the two original versions.
I do agree the dorsal connector looks bad on the new one. I took the obviously tacked on torpedo launcher off, and it helped a bit, but your right..it flows the wrong way, taking some of the sleekness away from the overall design.
