First Star Trek movie to win an Oscar?

Star Trek won for Makeup, I can't recall if any other Trek movie won an Oscar.

Did one of the others win for special effects? Wrath of Khan maybe? Not really sure.

I'm glad it won something...and if it wasn't for Avatar...it would have won for Best Visual Effects as well.

I'm not a huge "visuals" guy, but, no offense to you all that loved ST---
but I wasn't that thrilled with ST on the whole...so I had my eye on things
other than the actual dialogue, plot etc. out of distraction.

          That said...
I totally noticed what I felt was a breakthrough in the "scale' aspects of the
visuals in movies in ST---i.e. basically the same thing that people raved
about in the first scene of the first SW movie with that STAR DESTROYER.

in ST, the big things looked bigger to me than they had in a long time in the movies...notably bigger---- and ergo more impressive visually.

I haven't seen AVATAR so I have nothing to say there

              Okay, here's the run down:

              The Motion Picutre:

Oscar nominated for best visual effects, best score and best art/set direction

              The Wrath Of Khan:

              No Oscar nominations

              The Search For Spock:

              No Oscar nominations

              The Voyage Home:

Oscar nominations for cinematography, best sound effects and sound effects editing, best score and best sound. A lot of people were upset it didn't get a nomination for visual effects because it was figured that the visual effects for the whales (remote controlled miniatures) were so good that many voters mistakenly thought they were real whales.

              The Final Frontier:

No Oscars nods but it did get 3 Razzies (worst picture, worst actor and director, Shatner)

              The Undiscovered Country:

Oscar nominated for best sound effects and sound effects editing and best makeup

              Generations:

              No Oscar nods

              First Contact:

              Oscar nominated for best makeup

              Insurrection:

              No Oscar Nods

              Nemesis:

              No Oscar nods

              Star Trek 2009:

Won an Oscar for Makeup and also nominated for sound, sound editing and visual effects.

                    I dunno,

It seems the new Star Trek movie didn't have all that much make-up especially no big extravagant monsters or anything.

I can't imagine them deserving to win for just basically the Vulcan and Romulan appliances.

                    Seems strange
