FASA Romulan Nova Z-1 now a garage kity model

I never thought I would ever see a garage kit based on this FASA design but here it is reviewed:

Here is the FASA design-pretty damn close:

    Neat!

Maybe the Nova was based on some prototype ship they never used in the moves/tv shows? The FASA Trek game was scrutinized super-hardcore when it came out, and they also had access to lots of behind the scenes stuff. (The Winged defender was based on an unused ship design from the third movie, and the maquis ship sfrom the first Voyager episode are Bright Ones with a different front end.)

I know that the Romulan Nova was used in the DC comic book adventures outside the role-playing game. Then at some point Paramount came in and forced DC to cancel the series and they dropped using any FASA material when the comic book returned. I think Rodenberry probably clamped down on them when he discovered they were using materials from FASA. It seems whenever someone contributes something to Star Trek that might actually gain in popularity it gets squashed because it does not meet with the approval of the higher-ups.

Some of the Roddenberry/FASA era gets a little weird. FASA was WAY under the heel of Roddenberry/Paramount thwne they did the game, so it can all be consiudered cannon.... for the time, anyhoo. When the Next Gen came out, Roddenberry was trying to get away from the military aspect of Star Fleet, and a lot of FASA stuff got squashed. (Such as the Gorn and Orion sourcebooks.) Shortly thereafter the FASA game went away; although I don't know if they got frustrated and quit (especially after the Next Gen Technical Manual thing) if Roddenberry pulled the plug, or if something else happened.

Off topic for a second ....... Did Micromachines use many of FASA's molds ?

I never had the two side by side to compare but I always thought Micromachines were basically FASA ships in plastic.

They're similar, but the MicroMachines tend to be a bit bigger. (I have a bunch of both. We played the hell outta the old ship combat game....)

I never played the FASA games but I did have a few of the ships - mostly common ones.
