Not surprising. ANYTHING you can remeber has doubtless been pitched as a remake.

Nooooooo!!!!!!!11
Why,why,why.....
I mean they could easily have done a prequel with a younger actor to take in his pre escape days.
Or bring Kurt back for one last Snake film.“When you say “It’s hard”, it actually means “I’m not strong enough to fight for it”. Stop saying its hard. Think positive!”Comment

I can tell exactly what's going to be wrong with this movie ......
The old movie was low budget which made you see LESS special effects, in turn the story itself had to be concentrated on to make up for this.
This new movie will be a showcase as to what computer CGI guys can do making New York City look like a prison ... Story will be secondary - if that.
I'm sure the new movie will look prettier, but I can't imagine seeing much more than CGI special effects.
CGI (even great CGI) is very boring if not used sparingly --- which you know they wont do.Comment

I can see that. The problem for me being that in the movie, New York is a burned out wasteland. So they filmed in a burned out wasteland. But with the CGI they'll add all sorts of visually hyped-up stuff that wouldn't make any sense in a run down, post-apocalyptic city.

I dunno, I am always open for re-interpreting great flicks. if the remake sucks I don't have to watch it again. I will always have the original available to meComment

The can film in detriot and not use all that CGI crap there are whole parts of the city abandoned already (they showed some of the buidlings in the Life after people)Comment

Part two was a real disappointment.
Basically a rehash of the first movie, crappy CG, a boring bad guy, and Peter Fonda on a surf board.
No wonder Russell has had his share.
Escape from NY is a perfect example of how a movie with a tight budget is much more inspired because you just have to get it done with a lot of imaginative solutions.
I'll just enjoy Escape from NY, and leave it at that.
As for remakes: I don't really have to give my opinion anymore, right?.
