An ABC source confirmed that the DVD and Blu-ray release of season 6 will feature twenty minutes of additional scenes, some of which will have answers to questions, cut from the storyline due to running time.
    Oh I hope so.....

The sideways world: This tells moe or less the character's effect if sleeping dogs had been left to rest, BARRING incidents that were left to events on the island. If Ben had never been on the Island, he would have become a noble man. Don't forget he transformed when his life was spared in the lazarus pit thingy. Ben is evil, make no mistake. Everyone in sideways world is their polar oppisite. That's why Desmond was so special, he was able to swap planes of existance. This is why Widmore had zapped him. Desmond is going to bring about major changes and unite the yin and yang. Locke is the man of science in sideways world, while Jack is the man of faith. 3 things to remember...Desmond IS the constant, He who lies in the shadow of the statue will save us all (Last I looked it was a dead John Locke), and nothing is over till the fat lady sings...

They posted a one minute sneak peak from the finale. Possibly the best Sawyer line ever.

I know that they had three years notice. My point was that they seem to have struggled to try and tie up many of the story arcs and like you said they have been bogged down on certain ones this season like MIB.
In the end, it is what it is.

The creators have talked a lot about the influence of the Stand, yes. It has it's own Lostpedia entry. Same for The Watchmen.

I can't remember if anyone brought this up before, but it felt to me like this season kind of felt like the build up in Stephen King's The Stand.

They had three years notice about the end--they had the opportunity to answer what they wanted to answer. But as they say, this is the story they wanted to tell.

But I do think it might have been an early tactical error to spend the whole season 6 on MIB's plot/long con. People keep saying that Across the Sea should have come sooner in the season, but that would have given away who he is and what he's about earlier in the game, but that could have been a good thing. They spent all season on MIB going around recruiting people and building up this whole mystery about what he is about, is he good or evil. They spent a lot of time this season moving people around when they could have been dealing with loose ends.

Would it have killed them to have Ben and Richard discuss what the heck the Others were up to? That to me is a big unanswered question. We've seen a lot but we don't know what it means.

I think part of what happened was that when they decided that season 6 would be the last season and the writers started to tie up all of the stories and events, they realized how much they couldn't really get into or tie up. Once you decide on a time line to end something that is and has been this complex, you can quickly realize what a daunting task that can be. I bet they now wish they had one more season so they could have better handled explaining many of the things us fans want to know.
We are just going to have to accept and be as happy as we can with what little they will be able to finish tying up and explain this Sunday.

Interesting.... I hope you are right. I like the Widmore/Ben storyline.
