Question for non-USA people about TV shows

The Rocket Robin Hood thread got me thinking about how many "foreign" shows are quite common in their own country but at least partially obscure or unseen in others ........

As Americans we take it for granted everyone in the world has seen OUR TV shows but i'm sure that's not the case.

My question to non USA people is ..... What TV shows DO WE AMERICANS always yap about but the show never played in your country - or played very little ?

Perhaps you've never even heard of the show until you came here.

I think most shows end up on television here as well. Couple of weeks ago I read a thread were everyone was talking about the Big Bang Theory, didn't know what it was. Then a couple of days later I saw trailers for the show on tv "Starting next week".
No doubt there are things that never make it here, but most does I think.

Go ahead and name a couple of popular US shows and let's see if they show 'em here.

While growing up in Mexico, the most popular shows were the one hour series, Magnum, A-Team, Knight Rider, Simon & Simon, The greatest hero. Nevr heard much of sitcoms like Mork and Mindy and stuff like that. Family Ties waas big in Mexico.

I always lived near the US border and we could always tune in the network affiliates out of Buffalo, so we had access to all American TV shows (although in many cases, that's not a good thing).

For Gerry Anderson, Fireball XL5 was the biggest Anderson show in the United States followed by Supercar back in the day... They were even bigger than Thunderbirds (which had a limited US release).
I'm pretty sure Captain Scarlet and Joe 90 didn't even play here when new.

We get just about everything American here. Let's say 80% of it.
Unfortunately, we also get the bad stuff, usually during prime time. I rarely tune in between 7 and 10 PM, 'cause it's crap reality shows, stuff like The Mentalist, etc.

The shows that I like, are BSG (usually around 1 AM), Supernatural (4AM); you know, the time of the "day" when people usually watch TV....

                    Never heard of him...

I don't remember Supercar, or the Secret Service, but all the shows from Fireball XL5 to Joe 90 were on Canadian channels during their production runs.

I watched the secret service in French as a kid, it was hypnotic to see the transition from people to puppet.

In America growing up I didnt think much about imported TV. The only prime time import I knew of was The Avengers (Steed & Ms. Peel). Other than that was Speed Racer but I thought that was made for American kids by Japan. I didnt think that it had a run of its own in Japan. Was Man from Uncle also an import or was it a Brit/American collaboration

We have a steady supply of American and British shows in Australia. Also, we have had a channel for many years which shows movies and programs from all over the world. Aussies can understand most accents.
