Watched Judge Dredd again last night

This isn't half that bad a movie. Once you get past the Sly colloquial slur. It is pretty decent. Love the costumes and great action.

I liked it in spite of Sly, I don't think a better actor would have made it a hit.

This is another one of those movies that tend to get bad press but when you actually get round to watching it it's quite enjoyable.

I don't know, I watched it once, when it came out, and thought it was terrible....maybe it was the Rob Schneider character, I can't stand that guy....naw, the movie just sucked

Hey, I liked it. Don't think anyone could've done any better than Stallone

The flick is not one of my favorites...but it's not terrible either.

It's kinda like The Fifth Element (which I like better)...both had an annoying sidekick...Rob Schneider in Judge Dredd...and Chris Tucker in The Fifth Element.

I was a big fan of the comics so I was really excited about the movie. I saw it...I enjoyed it, not great but definitely didn't suck.

I'm a big Stallone fan and Dread is one that I did like, but I had a few problems with it. The line "I am the law" didn't come off in the way I might have envisioned it. A little campy to be delivered at that moment, in that scene. That and I think too many actors, Stallone included, spent too much time posturing in their costumes. Even the way they walked seemed deliberate. I loved James Earl Jones prologue in the beginning and I thought Max Von Sydnow did a great job as Stallone's mentor. It was difficult seeing Armond Assante as the bad guy though because I was use to seeing him as Stallone's brother in a different, and much lighter, film called Paradise Alley. I loved the outfits though and Diane Lane looked absolutely delicious. Fun movie for me to watch solo, but not one I would introduce to a room full of guests.

                          Hmmmm....

If you’re looking to end it all, there are quicker and less painful ways....

Seriously; I HATE this movie! If you’ve never read the comic, it’s a really mediocre film. Almost every scene is ripped from another movie. If you HAVE read the comic, it’s.... well; words fail me. If you’re looking for the worst example of “reimagining” ever, this is it. Examples:

-Stalone doesn’t have the personal force to play Dredd. In the comic, during the block war from the opening scene of the film Dredd shows up, orders everyone to give up, AND THEY DO! That’s kinda the schtick of the comic, Dredd just wins.

-Another one is that Dredd never takes off his helmet. (He even keeps it with him in the bath.)

-Fergie (the sidekick) in the comic is a 9 foot tall superstrong mutant that Dredd meets in the “Big Smelly.” (The Ohio River.) Not.... well.... you know.

-In the comic, Judge Hershey is pretty much another Dredd; not an infatuated schoolgirl. The character in the movie is closer (but not quite) Judge Anderson. But, being a powerful psychic adding Anderson would have resulted in a 20 minute film.

-In the comic Dredd KNOWS he and Rico are clones, AND DOESN’T CARE!

-The Judge Council in the movie is a who’s who of important Judges from the comic; ANY ONE OF WHICH COULD HAVE TAKEN DOWN A 50 YEAR OLD WAR DROID!

-The Angel Gang was a major foe in the comic, not a one-off encounter. (Although Mean Machine looked GREAT in the film!)

Ironically, “Demolition Man” was a LOT more like the Dredd comic than the Dredd movie.

....now you got me all bittered up....

                          Don C.

I liked the movie. I would say classic here. I have only read few Dredd comics so I cant comment on that end. The movie was visually great. The effects where cool. And I liked the line. "These blocks are under arrest!!!)

                              >I would say classic here.

                              AAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!

                              >The movie was visually great.

Well.... other than the Judges, yeah; it did look good. I hated the armour on the Judges 'cos there's a story that explains why they DON'T wear armour. But the city, Mean machine.... even the robot looked great.

                              >And I liked the line. "These blocks are under arrest!

It was a lot better in the comic. (Dredd shows up at the beginning, and the story is sniglets of those fighting debating on wether or not they should surrender.)
