Doctor Who: Favourite Male Companion?

I have a gay friend who likes the New Series but truly hates the character of Captain Jack.

He said Jack makes all gays look sex obsessed and twisted.

Never thought much about it, but I guess he's right.

Weird thinking Jack was written by a gay man.

Russel was probably a little smitten with John so we was living viacriously via his characters

I never really got into the 'male companions', per se.. and like most, I didn't come into the series until the 4th Doctor years..

Although short lived, I liked Mickey as a companion with Rose..:

ROSE: DOCTOR ~ You CAN'T bring a horse in the TARDIS..!
DOCTOR: Why not..? I let you bring Mickey..??
