Star Trek - Favorite movie of 2009

    By a freakin mile.

I'll admit to having been a skeptic on this. I was always a huge ST supporter, though mostly from the movies forward as I was too young to remember the original series much. I thought they went as far as they could in film with the franchise and that this was going to be nothing mroe than Star Trek 90210. I even skipped seeing this on the big screen. I'm an idiot.

This is so well done with little nuances and details and has what the original cast had over their TNG counterparts...heart. This film was so respectful of the original series while creating it's own reality and spin. It was strange and fun seeing Chris Pine channel Shatner every now and then. I think most of it was subconscious. Spocks' part was simply stellar.

The entire movie was a fun ride and so slick. I'd go so far as to say it's the best movie I've seen in several years. I know ST purists turn their noses up on this, but that's a mistake. Fun has returned to the Star Trek franchise. It's worth seeing in any format.

I agree. Comimg from someone who admitted that they were never really a Star Trek fan, It's an amazingly layered movie.

Put me in on the Star Trek bandwagon too...absolutely...what the new Star Wars trilogy should've been.

        1. Star Trek
        2. Up
        3. Moon
        4. Inglorious Basterds
        5. The Hangover

Honorable mention: Earth, The Cove, Drag Me to Hell, Julie & Julia, Broken Embraces, The Road, Food Inc., I Love you Man, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, District 9, (500) Days of Summer, and Zombieland.

I have NOT seen Avatar yet...so I can't comment on it.

District 9 was my favorite. Star Trek was a close second and a nice suprise. Believe it or not 2012 is probably third.

Yes the 2009 Star Wars as Trek film was exciting, but it dumped on and threw out 40 years of fan supported history. for that it doesn't deserve to be so honored!

INGLORIOUS BASTERDS is so much better than any thing released this year
                            it's not even a contest.

I guess you didn't quite get the whole "alternate Timeline thing" huh? The original Prime Star Trek Universe remains untouched.
