70-Minute Video Review of Star Wars: The Phantom Menace

Totally worth the time to watch.

If you agree that the Phantom Menace was a boring waste of time that soured the whole Star Wars legacy this is a very entertaining review that explains very well why you might feel that way. Made me laugh, made me think.

If you only watch one segment, watch this one:

    Here's the entire review./

Some guy named Mike from Milwaukee, WI put together a 70-minute video review discussing the many reasons why the movie was horrible. And this isn’t your usual fanboy rant, this is an epic, well-edited well-constructed piece of geek film criticism. In fact, the way I learned about the video was from Lost co-creator and Star Trek producer Damon Lindelof, who said “Your life is about to change. This is astounding film making. Watch ALL of it.”

I have sat through some terrible rubbish films in my time, Phantom Menace is not one of them. What do people base these thoughts on?

I can almost watch the movie in 70 minutes.....

I never understood why people hate this movie so much. I liked it, a lot. Yeah, Jar Jar was annoying, and so was the kid. But overall the movie was well made and I enjoyed it. i thought the lightsaber duel at the end was amazing.

I'm sorry, I should have put it this way: If you agree that the Phantom Menace was a boring waste of time that soured the whole Star Wars legacy this is a very entertaining review that explains very well why you might feel that way. Made me laugh, made me think.

The whole movie is about Anakin. If you can't stand the kid how can you watch this film at all? It read more like a Disney film than a serious science fiction attempt.

            Oh my God...this is HILARIOUS...lol...

I watched that segment first...now I'm going to watch the entire 70 minutes...lol.

It's so right on the money (I like his monotone delivery, lol).

I truly DESPISE The Phantom Menace...I HATE that flick with a passion.

One of the WORST big-budget movies ever made...that's for damn sure.

Thanks for posting this...it has been bookmarked.

              Mmm...where should I begin?

The STATUE and WOODEN acting from the entire cast...the yellow peril-speaking Trade Federation dudes, Jar-Jar Marley and his dreadlocks, the stupid kid, the midichlorians (yikes), the never-ending pod race (with stupid blow-by-blow commentary), MTV editing, especially in the end...cut to Amidala and palace gunfight, cut to Anakin blowing up space station, cut to rastafarians fighting robots, cut to Qui Gon Jinn & Obi Wan Kenobi fighting Darth Maul (the only cool character)...and on, and on, and on.

              God...I really hate this movie.

                I don't really think that.

I'm not that "unhinged" about PHANTOM MENACE...

HOWEVER...I watched the "part 6" of that thing that you posted and thought
it was poingnant, nicely done, funny and overall entertaining...maybe even
                more than PHANTOM itself.

                Definite recommend.

...and this is what INFURIATES me about The Phantom Menace.

The actual lightsaber duel is indeed kickazz...IMO...it's the BEST technically superior lightsaber duel in the ENTIRE Star Wars saga (although it lacks the drama of any of the original trilogy duels).

                  But...Lucas RUINS the moment.

                  Why?

Because the climatic scenes cuts back and forth...MTV style...first you see them fighting...then it cuts to Amidala's scene, then it cuts to Anakin's scene, then it cuts to Jar Jars vs Robots...then back to lightsaber duel...and it goes on and on...back and forth...ARGH...

Had it been a STAND ALONE lightsaber scene...not cuts to the other "who cares" scenes...it would've been awesome.

Like this...all the bullcrap edited out...just the pure lightsaber duel...amazing stuff...Darth Maul/Ray Park is simply AMAZING...

The Jedis running super fast in the beginning...then when Obi Wan can't get to Qui Gon (who's fighting Darth Maul)...the narrator says (in a super deadpan voice), "oh...yeah...that would've been a good time"

I seen Phantom Menace twice and I still don't understand what the plot is - and please don't try and explain it to me because I don't care

I've just seen part 7...and yes...Lucas and his crew admit the four stories going on at once was a bit much...but couldn't change it because of how the sequences were filmed.

Star Wars...one story going on in the climatic scene.

Empire...two stories going on at once.

Jedi...three stories going on at once.

Menace...four stories going on at once (argh).

"They laugh at his bad jokes" (narrator)...at 5:30 minutes into the video.

Lucas says "they are listening to his music"...then everyone cracks up like if Richard Pryor delivered a punchline...

What a bunch of scared and intimidated kissazzes...lol...
