Harlan Ellison wants to work on Star Trek Again

Topless Robot - Harlan Ellison Wants to Return to Star Trek

He's only kvetched about it for 30 years, this makes perfect sense. I like Ellison a lot but something inside me also likes it when he gets screwed, I find him more entertaining.

Yes. Harlan Ellison would like to work on Star Trek again. Because it went so well for everyone involved last time. If I was J.J. Abrams, I would hire Ellison to write a script, then change everything but the title. Tell me that wouldn't be the awesomest, most hilariously dick move ever.

      >If I was J.J. Abrams, I would hire Ellison to write a script, then change everything but the title.

HAW! That's rock, especially since I don't like Ellison.

      >If the very smart Abrams didn't want to go that way, I would be wide-open to rethinking such a film from the git-go.

So.... Abrams is smart now (or Ellison has a HUGE man-crush on him, judging from the rest of the article) but I wonder what he'd say after things inevitably failed to live up to his expectations. Hell hath no fury like a nerd scorned.

Yeah, like that is ever going to happen LOL
Ellison has had lawsuits against Paramount and been *****ing about them screwing him over on one thing or another for as long as I can remember.
        Hello mouth, meet foot.
Capt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"
Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"
Capt. Kirk: "No, Mr. Spock, I didn't think you would be"

          I also love this line
Paramount would, of course, have to pay me from the first meet git-go

This idea is as good as Amy Winehouse piloting the next space shuttle.
"Houston, we have a problem. The captain has been drinking the rocket fuel again."

Why try something that will almost certainly lead to conflict?

this guy is a total jackass....I never liked him and what has he done other than writing the original idea for City? hell, the episode might not have been as good if it had not been changed....I know he published his original story a numberof years back but I did not have any interest in reading it...shut up and get over it already

Sure Ellison wants to work for J.J. Abrams. But will J.J. Abrams be accomidating to Ellsion? I can't imagine Ellison writing anything as layered or fast paced as the movie that was released. There are sure to be differences of opinion about what the story should be. It would probably all turn sour pretty quick because everyone has a different idea about what Star Trek should be.

In his defense, Ellison has been correct to complain about being screwed over for all these years. There is really no instance where Rodenberry ever told the truth about why the script was re-written. He was busted in print, for all to see, in a video magazine by a writer/producer of another sci-fi series in the 1980's. It's re-printed in Ellsions book, City on the Edge of Forever. Even then Rodenberry does not really apologize but makes a feeble excuse.

At every convention and every interview Rodenberry lied about Scotty dealing drugs on the Enterprise in the story. This is referred to as the big reason why the script had to be re-written. Anyone who has read the script knows this never happened. It is an out and out lie. Why this lie had been perpetuated by Rodenberry for decades, even after he and Ellison made peace for a brief while, has never made sense. Rodenberry had a personal vendetta against Ellison for wanting to protect the script in it's original form. Having read it there is no reason why it could not have been filmed as it was. In my opinion, Ellison's version is better even tho we lose McCoy's involvement in the changing of history.
