Original Theatrical Star Wars Now Streaming Online

Star Wars is one of the most recognizable brands in the world, and there are legions of fans who have watched all of the movies many times over the years. That said, there is one version of the original Star Wars: A New Hope that has been much harder to watch, especially on streaming. That […]

It's not really clear what this. Is it the DVD version?
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

The theatrical cut is currently available on Cinema Box, but you never know when this might change. Cinema Box currently only works on an app on a Roku or Roku TV, so it doesn’t appear to be available on desktop or mobile.

Well I'm out but then again I have the originals on several media copies including the original "for rental only" I picked up at a mom and pop VHS rental store.

I can't wrap my mind around how they can get away with that. There's no official way to release it. How did they even get a hold of a theatrical print?

I have a blu-ray boot of the originals, but I haven't gotten around to watching them. I have a Roku TV, so I may give this a watch... while it's still up!

Honestly, Disney could make a mint on re-releasing the theatrical cuts at this point. Lucas probably has some waiver in his contract that they can't or something.

I thought this was going to be one of the first things they did when they acquired the property.

I don't know if there's any validity to this or not, but on a different forum I look at, a poster over there said that he either heard or read that when Disney bought Lucasfilm, it was in the contract that Disney would never be allowed to release the original cuts, that the ones with the updated effects are the only versions of the original trilogy that Disney can release.
