I like Michelle Yeoh, but I can't bring myself to watch this, based on the trailer alone.
It's been reported that Skydance hired some outfit to evaluate current Trek and advise them how to proceed when they take over Paramount. This movie was an example cited when they advised them to shut down all Star Trek for a few years. Some rumors suggested that could include TOS streaming as well. I doubt that.
Merchandising earnings are in the dumpster, too. Wonder if that's why the Mego Trek output slowed. Would they allow Mego to continue classic stuff if they decide to "rest" the entire franchise for a while? -
i had not even heard Skydance was taking over Paramount. if what you are saying is true, that does not bode well for the future of Trek. I like Michelle Yeoh too, but this was an embarrassmentComment

Burying TOS is a super duper dumb idea, I wonder what would inspire that kind of action? I hope that's just a rumour because if anything, it's the one thing people still like for the most part.Places to find PlaidStallions online: https://linktr.ee/Plaidstallions

I haven't seen the Section 31 film, but some DIEHARD Trek fans I know, who love ALL Trek said it was awful. I never thought I'd hear them be so down on anything Trek. It must be REALLY bad.Comment

Longer version as I understand it. Mix of fact, persistent rumor and hearsay, so take all of this with a bushel basket of salt.
A faction within Warner Brothers was interested in acquiring Star Trek if Paramount had sold itself off piecemeal. I imagine they are breathing a sigh of relief after hearing this.
A big part of the Skydance deal was that they were very keen to restore Trek to classic (and profitable) form, hence the study on how best to do that. Unfortunately, they found that the Kurtzman/Secret Hideout/Bad Robot folks have an insanely good contract and may be too costly to get rid of or buy out. Also, the rights to different versions and elements of Trek are a tangled mess. If they ditched the current production company while their contract is in effect, they (Kurtzman/Secret Hideout/Bad Robot) would retain the rights to every element created for the shows and movies they made. Any future projects would be prohibited from using recent characters, designs and concepts. The thinking was that shelving Trek for a few years would allow the contracts to run out without any further damage to the brand and create a demand for traditional Trek to return. Not what Skydance wanted to hear at all, from what I've read and heard.
Keeping classic Trek on the air would be my play, that and relaxing the amateur project restrictions. I don't know if corporate Hollywood could even make "real" Trek anymore. The younger studio creatives grew up in a world that is basically one big vapid Jerry Springer show. That gets you stuff like Discovery...
Saw a graph that purported to show that merchandising profit was down by about 80%! I'd like to help out and buy all of those nice Exo 12-inch figures that Earth 2 Chris mentioned, if only the price were right. Stopped buying Sideshow when they raised the price above forty bucks. Hot Toys? Mezco? Nice, but no can do! Mego is the most affordable thing I collect now! Hey Paul! I need a new 12-inch deluxe ST:TMP Mego Spock! Please and thank you!
Added: Project Rise, a group of deep pocket investors, stepped in at the last minute to offer a $13.5 billion counteroffer to Skydance's $8 billion offer. Paramount rejected this new bid yesterday, choosing to honor their agreement with Skydance and expressing uncertainty about Project Rise's intentions.Comment

I didn't think Section 31 was as bad as some of what I've read stated, but it's certainly not good. Maybe had I watched it more closely I would have disliked it even more than I did. At the very least, it does nothing to help the Star Trek brand, and it slows the momentum that Strange New Worlds has achieved.
As far as the EXO-6 stuff, Najin, the owner, continually posts that most of the figures met or exceed the forecast he has made for them, and that all plans are moving forward. He knows the real demand is for TWOK, TOS and much of TNG, and he's getting his production ducks in a row so he can meet the demand without sacrificing quality or bankrupting his company. I worry we'll have secondary characters like Tom Paris (Voyager) and never get to the heavy hitters.Comment

Since all I know is what I have seen on Deep Space Nine, I would not entertain the idea of seeing such a film, knowing the subject matter.
Considering the whole debacle that Dr. Bashir endured, I would not be in the mood to see it.
