I dont really like either version...but its hard to get the full effect just looking at the mask on a stand. At least it wasnt the CGI Gorn from Enterprise!
I wish they had left the Rura Penthe scene in...It would have explained a lot, like where the Romulans were while waiting for Spock, and how Nero got his ear mutilated. Instead we are given the impression they just sat there for 25 years (or whatever it was)."Crayons taste like purple!"Comment

To tell you the truth I don't like either of themthe classic salt vampire was done well(it just needs to be tweaked)....the classic gorn needs the help of more modern realism but not a total redo like this one

I think they both suck. The Next Generation completely redesigned the Klingons, which actually was a good thing, but it's hard explaining such a make-over (and Worf never did if I recall). So how would you explain 2 creatures changing that much? Evolution? I don't think so"...The agony of my soul found vent in one loud, long and final scream of despair..." - Edgar Allan PoeComment

In the Trials and Tribilations worf simply said "we do not discuss it with outsiders" prior to that several ST books explained about a disease that caused the head ridges (genetic enginerring like Khan's) and enterprise had the opposite explanation the ridges were a genetic trait repressed by an airborne genetic mutiation that brought human characteristics to them for several generations until a "cure" was foundComment

Actually next generation remade the klingon culture into a more samurai like one (before that they acted more like pirates) but ST The Motion picture is to blame for the redesign of the klingons.

Does that mean Gorn and Salt Vampire were supposedly also affected by a disease? That's stretching it"...The agony of my soul found vent in one loud, long and final scream of despair..." - Edgar Allan PoeComment

Star Trek has a history of redesigning it's aliens. The Klingons being the most blatant. But they also did it with the Borg, the Ferengi, even the Romulans with a more prominent brow. Besides, since we only ever saw one gorn and one Salt Vampire, who knows if they would all look the sameComment
