Too familiar with the original, which I really like.
If you have Comcast OnDemand, you can watch eps from the original series. Click on TVEntertainment, then AMC, then The Prisoner 1967.

        >It's certainly more thoughtful and superior than your usual Network garbage

VERY true.... but that's not really much of an endorsement. "So.... it made me want to stab one of my eyes out, but not both."

        >I think it's a little unfair to make that comparison

I don't. If you're gonna appropriate the name of something you have to accept that the original is gonna be used as the template AND the standard you're up against.

Opinions seem to be divided, apparently.
If it shows up over here, I'll give it a try.

But as said above, if you're taking over a name and a concept, be prepared to be compared!

                Hmmmm....

I've heard good things from a friend who saw it, liked it, and is a fan of the original. So I'm kinda curoius.... but I'd rather see something NEW; or maybe a continuation. (Anyone see the Simpsons prisioner episode?)

I think you can call this a continuation in that this 6 is not the Dangerman/john Drake/6. The initial villager we see is an older man in the original village "uniform". This 6 isn't a secret agent, he is some type of civiallian intel analayst. The ideas of the orginal show are still their if a little darker and sadly they use that jump cut flashback ala the new BSG which I dislike.

great acting, poorly conceived ,poor directing.
the 60's show was all about breaking him, each episode was design to attack him at different angles of his mind.with mind bending cartoonie like happenings around him

I approached this with an open mind but I have to say overall, it's pretty weak.

It's like somebody watched "Fallout" a bunch of times and said "I get it, it's trippy and surreal" and that's it. The original series had some pretty straight forward stories, this one seemed all about being weeeirrrd and using inappropriate music for it's scenes but not paying off.

The storyline plods too much, "Checkmate" seems to drag on forever.

Ian McKellan and his "two" is the best thing about this but even he can't make this interesting, he starts off menacing and then waters down.

I've liked Jim Caviezel in other things but he plays "six" in the most uncompelling way, you just don't give a crap about him. The guy is a dullard.

Really wanted to like this, it was obvious they were trying to do something neat here but I just couldn't, if I were to grade it, it'd be a C.
