Kirk and Spock romantic TMP promo photo

Do you think they did this on purpose to add fuel to the Kirk/Spock fans fire?

I don't see it as romantic

To me it looks like Spock is hypnotizing Kirk

BTW, I bet Kirk is standing on a book

How long can you stare at eachother without blinking? My money is on Spock

Shatner asked to have that pic taken, to show how fit he was in TMP. "See...I'm...as skinny as...Lenoard!"

I just think they were trying to convey the pretentious artsiness that the whole TMP campaign was pushing but it does give the slashers reason to celebrate before the days of photoshop

That is a retouched photo. The original has them facing away from each other, back to back. Someone has since turned them around and made them facing each other.
                    Pretty funny photo though
Capt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"
Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"
Capt. Kirk: "No, Mr. Spock, I didn't think you would be"

It may be a different photo you are talking about because both of their faces seem to be catching the light in the middle.

I do believe that was a promo photo taken for the proposed sequels:

Star Trek II: The Rash of Khan and Star Trek III: The Search for Spock's Pants.

If I recall, Joel Schumacher and Bryan Singer were to be involved via time travel... that became the plot of Star Trek IV.

                            I stand corrected.

I only remembered the one with them back to back but I did a quick search and found that they also had a few of them facing each other like with this one.
Notice how they have Kirk looking taller than Spock LOL
Capt. Kirk: "Is there anyone on this ship, who even remotely, looks like Satan?"
Mr. Spock: "I am not aware of anyone who fits that description, Captain"
Capt. Kirk: "No, Mr. Spock, I didn't think you would be"

I've seen this picture before and remember it as being a behind the scenes shot that was used with different back grounds.
