Doctor Who - The Twin Dilemma - talk

Was just watching The Twin Dilemma.

I can't believe this story is constantly voted WORST CLASSIC SERIES STORY EVER by many fans on official polls.

It's not great, but i've seen worse ...

A few stories I would say rate LOWER then The Twin Dilemma.

    Ghost Light
    Snakedance
    Warrior's Gate

IMO, The Twin Dilemma had one of the best quotes of the entire Classic Series -- "I am the Doctor, whether you like it or not !!!"

    What do you think ?
Do you think The Twin Dilemma is the worst Classic Doctor Who story ever ?

I haven't seen much of the Colin Baker Doctor Who. I'm trying to change that.

Yeah i'm not sure i would have put it there, after all it has Peri in it, but it just was list in the officail Doctor Who magazine all time out of 200 stories as # 200!!!!!!! I really liked Colin's time on the show. he even stated early on he wanted to go for Tom's record of years on the show. then the BBC tookit off the air for 18 months and colin spoke up about it and when it came back they gave him a short 14 episode season and then the Door. It's really a shame as when you get past that first season where they were playing with him being manic and he's settled down during trial with peri it would have improved if they didn't have the whole trial thing over thier heads.

Much like Tom, Colin and JNT just couldn't see eye to eye but unlike Tom colin didn't have the longest and one of the most successful runs to back him in the fight. the Ratings slip in it's resultin Hiatus certainly didn't help. Trial was a sad swan song for Colin as it's just as dull as every other Who story longer than 6 episodes (invastion is actually good despite it's length but liek war games it drags)

Twin Dilemma isn't very good and it's probably Colin's worst, but calling it the worst of all time is just hateful. especially if put behind stories that are lost and only a few have ever seen. in my opinion all these stories were worse than Twin Dilemma

Gunfighters - if only becuase we have to hear the ballad of the last chance saloon sung my Peter purves
Snakedance - I'm with mike not a great one and did Kinda really need a followup??
Happiness patrol - mccoy got shackled with some really bad scripts but this is the toughest to watch for me (and paradise towers is bad too)
Warrior's gate - the lowest point in the Tom years
Krotons is also not very good

Most people seem to give Hartnell and Troughton plenty of leeway on lousy stories.
That's ok, but it is a little unfair to the newer Doctor's.
Even beloved stories such as The Aztecs don't stand up very well compared to newer Doctor's stories.

I think part of that is the "well it was done in the 60's on a tight budget" arguement but it is a cop out. Better stories hold up despite the poor effects and shoddy sets. as an adult we are far more observant on the 10th or more viewing to see flaws left in the show because the BBC was too cheap to do a retake (even Pertwee episodes have long pauses when an actor loses his line and tries to recapture it rather than reshoot).

All the historicals are dull hence why they haven't done one since Black orchid and the last before that was Highlanders.
Aztecs is decent at least there is some good humor in it (and as one of the ealriest it gets a pass for any flaws) and the production quality isn't bad when viewed historically.
Gunfighters was well along and 8th historical (7th is you don't count the cavemen story parts of unearthly child)
Gunfighters is every stereotype about the old western rolled into a few really bad american accents. Not quite as bad as when americans try to sound like Brits though
