50 Years Ago Today....The Twilight Zone

still one of my favorite shows ever, and every time I go to MGM studios and ride the tower of terror i come back home and watch the whole series again

I've been working on a Twilight Zone display for my collection room. I did some research and started recreating a Talky Tina doll for my first project. I have the correct doll and stuff to make the dress. I still need to do her hair and get the workings that make her move her arms and legs. I also have parts to start a Mego scale Erich Streator/Talky Tina set. I plan to do a bunch of other characters in Mego scale, plus some additional props, like the masks from the episode with the same name, glasses from "Time Enough at Last," and the Mystic Seer from "Nick of Time."

Watched the classic series as a kid,some of the episodes would give me the creeps.

I have not seen any of the new stuff,as i loved the feel of the classic series in black and white.

The Talky Tina project sounds cool but I'd be afraid to have that thing laying around my house.....

The new series (the one in the 80s and the most recent one) suffer from one thing IMO....the lack of Rod Serling. He was the guiding light behind the success of the original TZ. There've been a couple of good episodes out of the new stuff but nothing earth-shattering.

Yeah i read somewhere that the new TZ stuff didn't have Rod Serlings feel to it.

Did he appear in a story on the TZ? Or did i imagine it

During Season 1, Serling did all of the opening voice-over narrations and only appeared on screen at the end of the episode to tease the viewers about next week's show.

But the last episode of Season 1, "A World of His Own", was about a guy, Gregory West, who created his wife AND his mistress by simply describing them on a tape recorder.

As the episode ends, Serling appears on camera to state that obviously such a thing could never really happen...at which point Gregory proceeds to chastise Rod ("Rod, you shouldn't!") and produces an envelope marked "Rod Serling" which contains a tape describing Rod. He tosses it into the fire and Rod vanishes...exclaiming "Well, that's the way it goes"

Beginning with Season 2, Rod was in front of the camera at the beginning and end of each episode....

WORST MOST BORING EPISODE EVER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

On a different note, I can't stand watching the few video taped episodes.

Some of them are really good (I love the haunted car and Art Carney Santa ones) ... but the video look just ruins the show.

When I watch them it feels like i'm watching play on stage (not very scary)

That's "An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge".....Serling bought that French film and used it as a TZ episode. It won some kind of award at Cannes that year.....

I think I like them all.... There were six I think: Night of the Meek, Static, Long Distance Call, The Whole Truth, Lateness of the Hour, and Twenty-Two. They have a sort of 60s soap opera feel to them.

I think they all adapt well to the format except for the Whole Truth and Twenty-Two....

And the video-taped episodes were a budget-saving demand by the network..... Serling had his hands tied quite a bit by the network and the sponsors and was always involved in some battle.

Another nasty episode is that pool one where the little girl is dubbed over with Rocky J. Squirrels voice.

Wasn't that girl one of the stars of To Kill a Mockingbird ?
If so, why would they overdub her voice ?
