I haven't seen it in a long time, but I like this one. Paul Mantee came to a sci-fi convention I went to a while back.
"Do you believe, you believe in magic?
'Cos I believe, I believe that I do,
Yes, I can see I believe that it's magic
If your mission is magic your love will shine true."

I agree,it's in the same "mood" as 'The first men on the moon' from that same period.I saw those as a kid and never forgot them, buried deep in my mind.

Good movie and the Criterion collection DVD is really nice too. It really made an impression on me when I saw it as a kid.

I just saw this movie for the first time. I had some quibbles but overall I thought it was good. The one thing that struck me was that it looked so great. The effects, sets, all of it was beautiful to look at. The criterion dvd is terrific also.

The only complaints I have about it ... and these are minor ....

I hate the alien slave-master space suits ... To me they look like they're borrowed from Abbot and Costello go to Mars.

I wish the ending would have been extended to at least them getting on the ship and taking off.

Classic film. Space channel used to show it around Christmas time every year....I dont think they have of late though?

The eighties flick Enemy Mine was a very close rip off showing just how interesting a premise this was. Wouldnt be surprised to see it remade again...if its not already up for a remake/reboot/whatever!
