At first, Larson was going to do a sequel to the original series with the surviving cast, completely bypassing the recent Moore series. Now, thanks to Star Trek, we are getting a reboot of the original that will still run seperate of the Moore series.
They were promising a format that stuck closely to the original series....and first few episodes, before the show got all muddied up. Now...? Who knows?
Like 60's Child, I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I would love an action packed series that emulates the original. I still dont really like the Moore series. Its kind of the Star Trek TNG version of Galactice, lots of talk....I want guns and cartoony violence and fun hoo haa action like the original....even if it means Boxey and Muffit are along for the ride!!!
I read on Movieweb breaking news today. it concerns Universal approaching Bryan Singer as producer and maybe director might be nearing a done deal .He was in charge with Tom Desanto on the sequel show that was supposed to be done in 2001.that project fell apart like every one knows .but Dirk Benedict, Richard Hatch and Herb Jefferson Jr were all attached to it since it technically was a continuation. theirs sketches of what they had planned on youtube brilliant stuff .if they sign Bryan Singer you know for a fact his partner Tom Desanto is not far behind he's is a hardcore diehard fan of the original,Im pretty sure Glen Larson wants this version to be the new theater version Best news of the year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think a new "old school" Galactica could be fun to watch. I watched the new series when I could (I don't have cable), and it was OK to me, just not something I would want to go to the movie theater for.
I'd love a sequel to the original.
Imagine this:
It's 20 years after the final episodes of BSG TOS.
The Galactica has been captured by Cylons, and Starbuck and Apollo have spent the last 20 years in a Cylon labour camp (so no problem with having actors that look a lot older).
The rebellion is growing and the heroes escape with one mission: reaching the abandoned Galactica and resuming the war!
PS: Boxey died in a "unfortunate" space toilet accident.....

Great, Bryan Singer. So why would 9/11 give the studio cold feet on a SF movie?
heres what happend in September 2001 the sets were being built in Vancouver Canada they were 4 weeks away from shooting date. when 9/11 happend everything went outta whack in terms of time so things got pushed forward Bryan Singer had only a 4 month window to do Battlestar before he had to start shooting X-men 2 and was under contract from FOX to do so .so Universal lost him and they got cold feet cause they wanted Bryan to begin with. they did talk to other directors but by that time Universal lost intrest until the recent events this week 9 years later .it was all about timing nothing else it was sad for everyone
what they did with this 'new' version of gallactica was criminal...ive just bought the vintage series full box set and BSG 1980 , they are still way ahead of thi new version. I never got it. Why change the sex of starbuck? They cyclons , what was wrong with how they originally looked.
anyway , heres to a new old version of the classic.
Breaking News! Variety broke the news Bryan Singer just signed to Produce and Direct its his next project no next Superman project for him.Yahhhhhhhhoooooo!!!!!!

I hear V is being remade aswell?
They sort of "unofficially" explained toward the end of the new series why the current Cylons looked different from the old series. In case you haven't seen it yet I'll put in a spoiler warning.

When the current BSG finally reach the decimated Earth you see the remains of the 70s Cylons. They stated that their lost Earth colony shared a parallel fate as they had. The Earth colony advanced in much the same fashion as the original colonies where they built Cylons who they eventually went to war with, yet their Cylons were "different" models. It made the new series appear to be somewhat of an alternate universe ("Mirror Mirror" so to speak), which might explain the differences in character genders/races. They then left this Mirror version of Earth and found yet another Earth (resembling ours where the inhabitants were still at the tribal/post caveman era of time.) This Mirror theory also helps to explain how Starbuck could find her own very old dead corpse.

So.... the show has an end, but doesn't? This kinda explains why I've seen a few proposed sequel series' described as "answers the question of why....."
