Jake Loyd interview...ten years later after Phantom Menace
I cant help but get the feeling watching this, that the poor guy has had a life full of swirlee's and evil childhood tortures. He kind of gives off that "I dont care because I hate them too" vibe that some kids who are bullied hide behind. I felt kinda sad for him.

yeah i get that too, I bet he was teased big time as Anakin
or kids asking him for a Turboman doll
Well, the sense that I get is that Jake grew up listening to some pretty mean-spirited crap due to his portrayal of Anakin Skywalker in Episode I.
I'm pretty impressed at how well-adjusted he has turned out to be, all things considered.
It's bad enough that STAR WARS is one of the most prolific pieces of entertainment in pop culture, and is therefore open to the harshest criticism when it disappoints .
It's bad enough that Jake more than likely had to deal an abnormal childhood with the constant negative comments, and idiot remarks ("Manaquin Skywalker", etc.) from idiots kids his own age who were not doing anything positive in their own lives.
But in the end, I think THE WORST PART about all this was that people universally ignored the fact the Jake was supposed to be playing a little boy ("yipees" totally acceptable).
They ignored the feelings of a little kid when they ran-off at the mouth with their idiot comments in his presence.
He was too polite to say it in this interview, but what often happened to Jake Lloyd over the years was that these nasty comments often came from 30- 40 something year old losers who were so disappointed at how The Phantom Menace "robbed them of their childhoods".
These "adult" idiots had nothing better to do than to approach an 11 year old little boy (at the time) at a convention and tell him how badly they thought his performance sucked in a movie that disappointed them.
THAT'S what's sad.

Yes...I'm a 40 year old something loser (thanks for the passive-aggressive statement)...and yes...The Phantom Menace sucked donkey testicles.
SEE! No wonder the guy was rocking back and forth when people have attitudes like that.
Lo there do I see my Father.
Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.
In the halls of Valhalla where the brave may live forever.

You're very welcome Hector. And thank YOU for yet another pleasing visual regarding your distaste for Episode I. So classy. So... eloquent.
For the record, the "30 -40 something year old losers" that I referred to were the individuals who disregarded the feelings of an 11 year old little boy and blatantly prattled on with their anti-Episode I (and anti Jake Lloyd/Anakin) remarks... in front of him, and TO him. I guess some of these morons never learned the old adage that says "if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all."
No, sadly in 1999 we lived in the information / internet age where everyone with a computer and something rude to say about someone else did so in the comfort of their own anonymity. This is still the case today.
And now this rudeness and inability to censor themselves spills over even in face-to-face circumstances with a little kid on a convention floor.
Is it "passive/agressive" to point this out? Maybe. But I don't see why pointing out the rudeness of others (and calling it such) is "passive / agressive" while people who go around offending others to their face (even little kids) are somehow becoming "cool" or "hip" in our culture.
Hector my friend, I certainly don't consider someone a "loser" just for disliking a prequel STAR WARS film. I've said this many times before. And despite your repeatedly-stated dislike for the prequels, I most definitely was not thinking of you when I made reference to "losers". I'm not nearly that shallow nor simple-minded.
However, far be it for me to stop you, if you wish to label yourself in that way.

Darklord, Hector might have been a bit crude but he does kinda have a point. We get you are really, really REALLY into SW. Trust me, we get it. But these constant passive aggressive digs at people that don't like the new movies that seem to pop up every time the topic of the SW comes up are getting just a tad weird.
I mean, I like Enya's music and a lot of people absolutely loathe it with a burning passion of a thousand suns. I don't care and feel no need to defend that I like her music.
There is also another side to this.
"He was too polite to say it in this interview, but what often happened to him over the years was that these nasty comments often came from 30- 40 something year old losers"
I imagine it also would have been very creepy for him to deal with the unhealthily obessive adult SW fans that worship anything and everything SW. I feel for the kid having to deal with both.
You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

I have no real issue with Hector's comment. I actually find his colorfully expressed distaste for the STAR WARS prequel films to be a source of mild amusement.
As I said before. I'm not attacking anyone just for disliking STAR WARS.
See Werewolf, this is why people say I repeat myself. Just READ my previous post and you'll see that my "passive / agressive" post was not leveled at anyone who disliked the prequels.
It was leveled at vulgar, mean-spirited people who say rude things to a little kid.
You want to defend that? Go right ahead. I sincerely doubt you'll find any rational individual who will side with you.
What I find "weird", Werewolf, is how consistently you misread my posts, and then attribute characteristics to them that are not even accurate.

Fair enough. And I absolutely LOATHE the music of Bijork with a burning passion. But it would NEVER occur to me to go out of my way to approach her at a music convention where she is a guest speaker (for example) just so that I can tell her how badly I think her music sucks.
That is just rude.
That's the point I think you're missing in my "weird passive / aggressive" posts.

I do too. Although judging from the healthy amount of prequel bashing that has gone on for the last 10 years, I would imagine that Jake's having to deal with the occasional enthusiastic STAR WARS fan (who offers praise for his work, and praise for the film he appeared in) must feel like a breath of fresh air to him.

Yeah, I agree with Darklord. Its a shame the poor kid kind of became a lightening rod for a lot of the "ill will" that older fans felt for the Phantom Menace. He's a kid, he did what he was told to do...probably had a ball when doing it...and then had an outpouring of bile that he didnt deserve to have thrown in his direction. Lucas can hide behind his money...and his palatial ranch....Jar Jar wasnt real so hes off the hook (can you imagine if he was real...HoooBoy!). Sadly this poor kid had to go back to living in the real world, where he had nothing to hide behind.

Too true, Captain. Too true. And that constant "bile" (poured upon a little kid) came from virtually everywhere... sadly, even from grown people who should have known better.
Jake was very diplomatic in this interview, but you can clearly get the sense of how irritating it must have been for him.
I wish him the best.
