Weren't they going to do a movie on "Pong" too? The gripping yarn of a paddle who wanted to play in the big leagues....
Lo there do I see my Father.
Lo there do I see my Mother and my Sisters and my Brothers.
Lo there do I see the line of my people back to the begining.
    Lo they do call me.
They bid me take my place among them.
In the halls of Valhalla where the brave may live forever.

          Name that movie:
          "do you have Asteroids?"
          "No, but my dad does."

Of all the projects pitched to producers, and all the work done on them, THIS gets chosen? Aargh!

There was a bidding war between three studios for this?

SIGN # ONE that it may be a better script than Net Geeks are giving it credit for

If I retro-actively say that I noticed the line,
                      does it mean anything?

The simplest ideas are often the best, so who knows.

I gave up on trying to pick winners based on the idea alone after Titanic became the highest grossing movie of all time.

                          Hmmmm....

It's just the idea that someone would CONSIDER this that bugs me. It sorta ties into what I was wondering about before... talkin' on comics.... that NOBODY is looking forward. NOBODY is looking to try something new, or different. There's such a predeliction to mine the past that they've taken it to the ILLOGICAL extreme. Asteroids is both a good and bad choice for source material, 'cos there's NOTHING to it! You CAN make the generic film and slap this title on it for recognition's sake and not worry about offending the old fans or not being true to the source material. You can make the film about the scenario in the game.... a spaceship surrounded by rocks it must shoot.... maybe an alien shows up.... OR you could make it about the game AS a game.... making a nostalgia piece about kids in the 80's who loved the game.... or the wacky hyjinks surrounding a retro game contest.... or the tribulations of the owner of an old arcade....

But ultimately it means someone's gonna make another generic film, and those resources AREN'T gonna be put into something novel.

I see this as another vehicle for Will Farrell.
