Your fav Dr Who regeneration stories poll

Just wondering what your fav Doctor Who regeneration stories are.

I'm not talking about after the regeneration -- I'm talking about the story that leads to the regeneration.

Of course some Doctors are excluded from this poll, namely Colin Baker and Paul MaGann (I will accept Sly McCoy)

My list would be (best to worst)

    1. Eccleston : Bad Wolf/ Parting of the Ways.
Great story, great action, great regeneration

    2. Pertwee : Planet of the Spiders
Decent story, great action, decent regeneration

    3. Hartnell : The Tenth Planet
Great story, minimal action, great regeneration

    4. Troughton : The War Games
Decent story, minimal action and too drawn-out, worst regeneration

    5. Baker : Logopolis
Story was "ok" but not good enough for Tom's big goodbye... Not a very good regeneration scene.

    6. McCoy : The Fox movie
Average story, minimal action, great regeneration

    7. Davison : Caves of Androzani
Even though Androzani is a fan fav, I always thought it was very boring... regeneration itself was quite poor, imo

    What do you think ?

    1. Pertwee : Planet of the Spiders - I thought the story was well done and the set up is very heroic and for the early 70's the regen effect looks good

    2. Hartnell : The Tenth Planet - I am a huge fan of this episode and considering the way it was done with 60's tech It's great plus it sets the table for all the rest of the Doctors.

    3. Eccleston : Bad Wolf/ Parting of the Ways. Story is well written and the heroic sacrific works (effects are of cource great but it's recent they should be)

    4. Baker : Logopolis Story is pretty bad but the regeneration scene was good

    5. McCoy : the set up for the regeneration is good especailly the time frame form his Death in the OR to the actual regeneration (leveraging the Time lord coma Pertwee had in Planet of the daleks)

    6. Troughton : The War Games - while one of the better survivors of the troughton era that isn't saying much. the story takes way too long (the 2nd longest epsiode ever in the classic series) and whole trial/regneration is anti climactic. not seeing pertwee puts it close to the beginning of Time and the Rani wiith the fake regen into Mccoy

    7. Davison : Caves of Androzani - really slow pacing and it shows the corners JNT was cutting on effects making it look worse than regnerations that were shot with much lower tech

      1. Pertwee : Planet of the Spiders
My first, the Spider scared me and the ending rocked my world, what happened to the Doctor? I'd see three Doctors later and realize what went on but I was maybe 5 at the time and Pertwee was Doctor Who...

      2. Eccleston : Bad Wolf/ Parting of the Ways.
Just watched this last night, great regeneration scene

      3. Baker : Time and The Rani
It's a terrible story with the worst regneration ever but I'm fond of how McCoy handled it.

      4. Davison
I was critical of Davison during his entire tenure but I always thought he went out with a real bang.

      Ones I hate:

Tom Baker- They talk about RTD mucking with continuity when JNT did that whole Watcher thing?

Romana- That scene in Destiny of the Daleks pains me incredibly.

The only thing I didn't like (at the time) was Eccleston's STANDING UP AND STILL ALIVE regeneration.
It just seemed strange compared to all the others ... But, after I thought about it for a while Troughton seemed to be standing up and still alive too.

I always hated the "watcher" thing for Tom Baker ... To this day, it still don't sit right for me... IMO, they should have had Tom just fall, say his goodbyes and die - then turn into Davison (the same way Pertwee turned into Baker).

For me, the most embarrassingly awful to watch regeneration was Davison into Colin.
The whole spinning cameo heads saying DOCTOR - or DIE DOCTOR was really hard to watch.
Besides being just plain bad, it was too predictible.
Regenerations work best when they're unexpected, quick and leave the audience going "what the f ?????" -- Like Hartnell's and Pertwee's

It looks like I'm in the minority on this one. I think "Caves of Androzani" is the best regeneration story. It's not perfect, but what Doctor Who story is. It also contains one of the all time greatest cliffhangers, the end of episode three.

The Doctor sacrifices himself to save a friend. I know the Ninth Doctor did it too but there are things in "Parting of the Ways" that would make me put
          Androzani ahead of it.

"War Games" we don't even see the regeneration. "Planet of Spiders" I find to long. "Logopolis" denies the longest serving Doctor the truly heoric end he should have had. The stuff with the watcher was stupid too.

The tv movie regeneration is pretty dire. The Doctor walks into a bullet and then gets treated by an incredibly stupid surgical staff.

I hope David Tennant's finale is a good one.

word omission on my part 2nd longest surviving - 3rd Longest story - Trial of a Timelord (14 parts), 2nd Dalek Master Plan - lost episodes(12 parts plus the "prequel" Mission to the unknwon), War Games 10 parts
