    Smallville

Except for the couple of episodes that featured the pseudo Justice League, I gave up on this series long ago...when I realized it was more 90210 than Superman in training.

Last night I saw a commercial for it that might change my mind...I was barely paying attention at first, but it looked like the guy from the second Mission Impossible series (I think hes Martian Manhunter on Smallville?) seemed to be talking Clark into stepping things up a bit. Yadda Yadda...they have done that before right....but then the showed Clark holding what appeared to be a red cape, and the final shot showed somebody standing on a building top with a red cape blowing in the wind.

Have they dropped the soap opera crap and are going for actual action and adventure finally? Is Clark finally Superman?

In theory, they don't really have to "drop the soap opera".

I mean, HOW long has this series sucessfully ran and not gotten booted
    keeping that 90210 format?

The soap opera stuff is still there, but it is more adult-themed, with less pining and whining since Lana left. She came back for 3 episodes and pretty much wrecked all progress they made. This year was a better year toward getting Clark to act like Superman. He essentially is Superman now without the cape and tights, and without the glasses. Unfortunately the season ender was horrible and wasted much of the series new potential. They may turn it around again in the first few episodes next season, but I'm skeptical.

It's getting tired and showing it's age. I think they've done about all they can without calling it either Superman or Metropolis and actually having Supes in costume.

I stopped watching after Lex left the show. Michael Rosenbaum was the reason I watched it in the first place.

Good point Huedell, the show does have its fans....but I'm not among them.

So...If Clark isnt wearing the suit, who was the guy in the cape? ...something Space channel made up to try get more viewers maybe?

No Lex? Whats Super...err...Clark without his bald headed nemesis?

If this is the episode I'm thinking about there was a red cape.

Spoiler Alert for those who care and haven't seen it:
Highlight below this line for the answer if you don't care to see the show to find out who wore the red cape.
Oliver Queen wore the red cape as a favor to Clark to help him end "Jimmy Olsen's" suspicions of Clark being a Superhero. "Jimmy" suspected Clark was the mysterious savior who only showed up as a red streak in "Jimmy's" photo.

                You're welcome!

That was actually a decent episode, if you have a chance to see it.

I hated it at first, but gave it another chance after year 6 (started watching it from the beginning on DVD). It's a show that I watch with both kids. It's kind of like Medieval Times or the zoo... only fun with the kids.

It is getting a bit more mature. I'd like to see it go another season or two TOPS. Then I'd like to see Tom Welling jump over to the big screen a kick off a new franchise as the full-fledged Man of Steel. He's a WAY better Superman than Brandon Routh.

I guess they'd have to really try hard to turn me away from this show. Still one of my favorites. I agree the season-ender was stinko.

there are good episodes in every season but I think they should have ended it 2 seasons ago. I still watch it religeously though. I thought for sure this past season was the last but it looks like they are coming back again. The actor who plays Martian Manhunter is the son of the guy from the original Mission Impossible series....Greg Morris? He does not get utilized enough and they have yet to show him in Martian form....when he first started showing up Clark kept finding Oreos on the ground which was a clue being given for fans to figure out who was helping Clark.

Yep, Phil Morris. Probably best known as Kramer's Lawyer, Jackie Chiles, on Seinfeld. You're right, not enough screen time for this Dude. Underutilized, for sure.

I thought it was going to be Steve Urkel!
