Terminator Salvation - Review ***spoiler free***

I took my son to see Terminator Salvation late yesterday afternoon. The crowd was sparce, but the reaction was pretty good. This latest installment serves to address the worlds of John Connor, Kyle Reece and how they come to work together. But before that story is covered your are introduced to a convicted felon on death row who is asked to donate his body to science upon his execution. The scientist asking the felon to sign this agreement says he will have a 'unique' opportunity to live again, but with purpose. You don't need a nickel's worth of insight to understand the implication here and so we go straight from there into the battle weery world of John Connor (played by Christain Bale). The story weaves the fates of these three individuals together (John, Reece, and the "reformed" Felon) and the audience is given a pleasant surprise, none of which I will reveal here, towards the end of the film (you won't be disappointed).
I have to admit the story gets pretty flimsy early on and the battle logic suggested by Skynet is not what I would consider to be clever, nor is the logic towards the end. But at face value the film is entertaining if taken as a straight action/adventure tale. The story does cover much of the backstory specifics Reece talks about in the first film, so it has some purpose here for long time fans of the series. Producers of this installment have indicated they will make two more films to cover the Connor/Reece era. Danny Elfman artfully covers the score for this film and Christain Bale gives an admirable, if not Batman-like, performance as John Connor. The effects are rendered by Industrial, Light, & Magic and are much better than I expected. In the series I rank this above part three but slightly below part two, mostly due to some major plot problems which we'll discuss at a later date after everyone here has had a chance to see the movie. Bottomline: It's a fun popcorn movie that will compete well with the current summer movies out there.

You say that like it would be a bad thing. I'll watch anything Terminator-related to get the taste of T3 out of my mouth.

        Really ?
In the Entertainment weekly Magazine that came out About a Month ago,... & they sat Down with McG ... & He Stated that Cameron Did infact give him his "Blessing" & How important it was to him,.. that he was cool with him Directing the Film. It was about 2 to 3 Paragraphs where the Interviewer & McG disscussed the Topic .... But I guess Whatever,.. makes no difference to me.

I 2nd the Motion on a Lucas Free Star Wars World...
Look at the New Clone Wars Cartoon. THAT is Fantastic,.. I enjoy the Cartoon better than the Last 3 Star Wars Films myself,.. & am a Huge SW Fan.. Also look at the Story in In the New Star Wars Video Game... The Force Unleashed... Lucas had nothing to do with the Story,.. & liked it so much He states , that , that is Now apart of the Actual Star Wars Continuty & Mythos.

Getting back to the Topic on Hand,,... So Tom,..
Any Clip of AH-Nold in the Flick,.. or just some mis-Guided Rumor ?

Absolutely and it made me sit up in my chair when he came out. It's not our current and older version of the "Arnold Terminator" but the original 1984 version beautifully done and...I can't underscore this point enough...VERY convincing. They could not have pulled this effect off five years ago. It's that good. I can't say anymore than that without revealing plot points, but Jason you will have a huge smile on your face when you see him. That moment in the film made the whole movie worthwhile... PLUS it underscored the idea that the Terminator we all know and love can continue without Arnold necessarily being in it physically. Knowing that makes the prospect of more films not only feasible but enjoyable to consider.

they should have at least waited for Cameron to read the script and give it the thumbs up no respect!

I agree. Cameron was a great movie maker and then Titanic came along, made him tons of money, and he just essentially quit. He might as well have gone done with the ship himself, because he's barely had a creative heartbeat since. With regards to this misperception MattelMike has about MCG, even Cameron has come forward recently and said the director's comments were taken out of context and he doesn't have any ill-will towards towards MCG or this latest installment. I have to believe if Cameron feels that way, then the Terminator purists should let it go as well. You would only be doing Cameron a disservice to keep that debate burning since he does not support the argument.

I can't help but Laugh,.. everytime I think about the Fact that Cameron Had the Script to Spider-Man for like 5 Yrs,.. & Did Nothing with it. Look at the Franchise today.

MattelMike I'm not name calling at all. I said you have a misconception that MCG and Cameron are fighting (and that perception was shared by alot of fans). You are by no means alone. I was just clarifying that if Cameron himself said it was a misunderstanding then you shouldn't abandon the series based on bad reporting. Give it a chance. I'm not a diehard, but I do think having Bale in the series gave it a much needed pump along with the CG-Arnold which, I can assure you, is nowhere close to looking like JarJar on steriods. He looks really good and he looks very real. I was blown away by that completely. I tip my hat to ILM for that one. When you see him you immediately see what has been missing since the very first film... The MEAN Terminator is back and he's freaking wicked.

You come into a thread,.. & Bash a Movie,.. Not wanting to see it,.. for the only reason being that the Director didn't get Praise from a Previous Director... Am I correct ? Or thats How I interpreted or Words.

Inwhich were not even True,.. from anything I have read...

So I offered my Opinions on the Matter. Perhaps I shouldn't have used the Word "******" ,.. I didn't realize it was an Offensive Word considering thats How I view people How get out of Touch with Reality, And can't see themselves behind all the Money, and thier Ego. IN Which again, imo,.. and I am intittled to them,,. as you were with yours... And I figured the Topic was up for Debate.

Fact of the Matter is Pretty Simple...., When you Make something Popular,.. & create a Fan Base,.. you need to either Poop or get off the Pot .. Otherwise someone,.. somewhere's will continue the Movie without you.

Don't get me Wrong,.. I thank Cameron for what he brought to the World of the Terminator,... However I'd like to see as Much about the world as Possible, Before I Die too.
