    New Blog: Trek Nostalgia

    Trek Nostalgia

Just discovered this fun blog, seeing as it's sort of good timing, thought many would enjoy. It seems weird to be nostalgic for Next Generation but I guess a lot of time has passed.

I had that same weird feeling this weekend chatting with my brother (who's in his twenties). He was a just a kid when TNG came out and he played with the Playmates action figures. I'm wondering if the latest reimagined Trek movie could jumpstart a resurgance in TNG as well.

I know I liked seeing the TNG guys in the Star Trek Prequel comic book that led into the new movie. It was also a kick to see them reunited on the recent episode of Family Guy.

If so, then it appears that Star Wars and Star Trek are trending on an approximate decade nostalgia cycle in relation to one another.

    Trek: 66-76
    Wars: 77-84 (?)
Trek: 86-96 (TNG through to Borg Movie)
Wars: 97-Present (Special Ed release through to Clone Wars TV)
    Trek: Present-?

I have a purposeful blindspot to Wrath of Khan and Voyager, but the highest grossing TOS Trek was Voyage Home in '86 right? Khan and Voyager always seemed to be a bit more "cult" than "mainstream-big" as indicated by the lack of popularity in merchandising/licensing in comparison to other eras.

Like the original series, TNG really benefited with daily syndication, it brought in a whole new crowd of people to the shows. The whole thing seemed to just explode in 1991.

I was living in a primarily "jock" dorm in college when it started airing afternoons and it was constantly on, which was weird because I was the one who didn't want to watch Star Trek.

Trek Nostalgia is a great blog, and if you want to see some newspaper clippings from TOS check this blog out.

This is interesting, or fascinating, I think you are on to something.
