    In Gene Roddenberry's own words...

Here's what Gene Roddenberry said in an interview just before he died in August 1991; somebody had asked him, 'What's going to become of Star Trek in the future?' And he said that he hoped that some day some bright young thing would come along and do it again, bigger and better than he had ever done it. And he wished them well"

    — Richard Arnold, Roddenberry's assistant

    So in other words...

PIPE THE FRAKK DOWN...YOU NEW TREK FILM HATERS!!!

Bob Cane said about the same thing of Batman. He said that every decade or so, they should update the character so he would appeal to that generation.

If someone digs deep enough they could probably find stuff like George Washington saying, the USA sucks

        Seriously, though

PIPE THE FRAKK DOWN...YOU NEW TREK FILM HATERS!!!

It's quite sad seeing all the hatred flourish from fans of the new Trek directed at people that just don't want to see it, like it, or accept it.

Is this what we have to look forward to forever from now on ?

And you are hating on the few people that don't like it or care. Am I the only one that gets the delicious dark humour of it? Seriously, man, you need to chill.

This reminds me, there is a good report at Trek movie about the media misunderstanding and ridiculing Trek fans and trying to cause a division where one doesn't exist. Sort of fitting right now I think.

You are a bold and courageous person, afraid of nothing. High on a hill top near your home, there stands a dilapidated old mansion. Some say the place is haunted, but you don't believe in such myths. One dark and stormy night, a light appears in the topmost window in the tower of the old house. You decide to investigate... and you never return...

Not to be overly philosophical about it, but Star Trek belongs to posterity now... just like Beowulf or Shakespeare. It will live on and on and on, and many actors will play Spock and Kirk, et al in the future. There will be many, many different interpretations of this saga.

Someday scholars from many disciplines will argue over correct interpretations and students will fall asleep during lectures on its themes and symbolism.

I admit to feeling frustrated by your stubborness about this, Mike, I think there's a natural tendency to want everyone to conform to our way of thinking. It's too bad you're feeling bashed on (and being bashed on). I heard an interview with some old school Trek fans who made a good point about feeling disrespected by the whole "This is not your father's Star Trek" thing. Fair enough, I can totally see that.

I really enjoyed the new movie and I think they really did right by the old series and insured that these characters will continue to thrive for years and years to come. I fund it inspiring and really respectful of what came before. It's gorgeous and nice to see Trek finally given the budget it deserves.

I find it almost hard to believe old Trekkies refuse to except this alternate reality flick...I mean...this is basic Trek 101.

                        Mirror, Mirror, anyone?

Damn it, Mike...send me your address (or paypal addy)...I will donate $14 (that's if you wanna see it on IMAX that is) for a movie ticket...heck...I'll make it an even $20 so you can also get some popcorn and soda.

                          I'm NOT kidding either.

I'm just observing there's a new trend these days,

You can include Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, James Bond and Batman into this mix.

                            There's a new sort of SUPER-FAN emerging.
These SUPER-FANS seem much more angry than their distant past cousins.

Many fans of these movies/shows have no tolerance for anything or anyone that doesn't think their new incarnations are the bees knees.

As Spock would say, it's interesting

There's also a trend of old school Trekkies hating on the new film without even having seen a single frame of the bloody movie (not counting trailers).

                              So...touché back at you, Mike.
